The black and white buttons are the start and select buttons, which straddle the guide button. The LB and RB could arguable have been stolen from the DS. The only real difference is the concave design as opposed to the terrible bulky almost bubblelike one of the original box.

incorrect, the black and white buttons were on top of the xbay buttons in addition to the back and select buttons. You cant say that the bumpers were stolen from the DS becuse they were also on the GBA but only becuse they wouldnt fit anywhere else on the small unit. Yet still, you could say that was stolen from the last gen genesis controller wich had a shoulder "mode" button.

not a big change?

Although i do admit that smaller controller looked alot similar but its still quite a change from the origional, and thats my whole point. I know the dualshock controller is good, but with enough planning an dwork, they could make a Better controller. If theyre gonna keep the dualshock for the next playstation they might as well just keep the price low becuse theres nothing really "nex-gen" about it anymore.

My bad on the buttons, but no, its not a big change. Major change is size, which i said already.

The original Xbox controller was absolutely huge, you needed a map to find half the buttons. The smaller Xbox controller was better but still not comfortable. The 360 controller is a lot better, love it.

Now, remember all the way back to the original PS controller. Ergonomic and perfect size from the offset. The DS1 was a bit more rounded and even better. DS2 didn't change much except from the colour, don't fix what isn't broken. SixAxis is comfortable, nice and light, etc. Not used the DS3 but it's just the SixAxis with some added weight.

Sony got their controller right from day 1, it took Microsoft 4 years to get theirs to the same stage.

well sure they had a very stable controller from the start, but you act like its the end all of controllers. It can still be perfected, or better yet, they can make one twice as good, theyve had years to thnk about it. Yet they are only concerned about how they can keep thier products on the shelves long after thier time. If they come out with a dualshock 4, enough is enough.

Well I think they tried to move away from the DualShock with the PS3 and the SixAxis that goes with it, but too many people moaned and complained over not having rumble so they were forced to release it.

They can't keep everyone happy.

i dont know what they were thinking(probably money and ease/cost of production), but maybe they were riding on the ps2s popularity too long seeing as they had almost no other alternative but to rerealease the dualshock(just without the immersion patent wich they couldnt get on time). I figured they would still have some really good prototypes on hand for just that type of situation.

Im not trying to just bash sony but, i think they should have put alot more thinking into that system(most notable the internet and controller) other then play it off and talk bigger than thier means. Or maybe they just knew the ps2 would support them just in case?

Sorry I'm late on this, but I'm offline at home, so I only get chance to check this place at work. But, how long do you think the PS3 was in development for? Do you think they just turned up a week before the release date, cobbled together a system and pad and said 'that'll do'? No, it was in development for years. Plenty of time to settle any niggling lawsuits and implement rumble if they really wanted to do it without delaying the system. Bottom line is they were unwilling to do so because of money, and fans were upset.

As for the 360 pad not being different, it's really already been said, but it's amazingly different. I can't see how you can claim it's barely changed since Xbox.

I own and enjoy both systems btw, so I'm no screaming fanboy.
