I guess he used a link in his first post and had the "Newb or idiot" post replace it. Not sure that the mods will help you out there. Its advertising.

Contacting the mods to inquire if you can peddle your wares here is probably the best thing to do.

Good luck with that.

You guessed it. I tried mentioning my auction site and got stuck with the automated spam response (pretty funny actually). Oh well. It has been met faborably on other newsgroups as everyone is pretty much disgusted with eBay. But they were mainly classic gaming newsgroups, Atari Age, Digital Press, KLOV, etc. I was hoping that it would have met with the same enthusiasm here as classic gamers have for it. I would like to get some modern console gaming auctions started and thought this would be a good forum to tap into.

I encourage any of you to try it if you are at the least bit disgusted with eBay and their fee structure. We charge no insertion fees so in a sense we are only paid if your item sells. We are also a site dedicated to classic and modern video games so, in the beginning, at least you won't see the site down with tons of inflated buy it now prices listed by people who don't have a clue what they are selling. It was created by a gamer for gamers, simple as that.

Everyone starts out with a $15 New Seller Credit, which at the prices I am charging will let you run a few free auctions to try the system out. And it will start getting plugged on my monthly podcast starting this month. And my podcast ( in conjunction with Retrogaming Radio) has a large installed international listener base. This will bring traffic to the site as well.

It will take time, but with the 250,000-300,000 video game auctions running at ebay at any one time, there is a market for a dedicated video game auction site.

You know you want to try it so go ahead and jump on the Chuckwagon Bandwagon.

And, I did email the mods but have not heard anything plus or minus. It's funny how everyone complains about eBay, but when given a less expensive alternative, thumb their noses at it and continue using Ebay. That is a customer base I would love to have :)

OK, so people don't like eBay because of the high fees. Fair enough. But at least, after the fees, you get to keep the rest of the money. The problem with an unknown site like yours is that it is unknown, so who's going to buy the games that are being sold? From the looks of it, nobody. With no, or few buyers, the game will either not sell, or will sell for pennies. Once you've taken your fee, the seller is still left with pennies. Wouldn't he rather have paid eBay a fee to end up with dollars?

So yes, ebay do charge a bit too much. But world+dog knows about it, so you instantly have millions of potential buyers, so the price of your item is likely to be a lot more than on a site with what, dozens of potential buyers, at best? A little bit of something is much better than a whole lot of nothing.

I currently have an eBay listing up but you just have to watch for special offers.

When I listed mine I got the gallery picture for free and tommorow the listing fees are lowering for the day. This helps you retain a bit more of the sale price.

"High fees"??? I realize that I am old and all, but I hardly consider a $3-4 dollar fee as being "too high" of a cost.

Unless, of course, the thing you're trying to sell is being auctioned for less than that price point.
