Has anyone gotten the media server to work?
Basically, My ps3 never finds my tversity server. I installed tversity, and followed everything in the guide that it says to do, and my ps3 never friggin finds it. My ps3 is in a DMZ, so it can't be that the ps3 has ports blocked needed to communicate with tversity. Whenever i run tversity and tell the ps3 to search for media servers, ps3 never finds it.
If anyone has gotten their ps3 to act as a media center, i would love it if you were to tell me how you did it.

My computer can't even see the PS3 on the network so I would like to know this also.
I thought it was just me doing something completely retarded at first but I am half comforted to see someone else has issues with it.

First off, what is tversity(or whatever)?
If you're trying to stream **** to your PS3 from your computer, just use WMP.
Go to tools-options-library-configure sharing, click share media, then your PS3 should show up as "unknown device", select that then hit apply.
That should work, it did for me

I tried it with TVersity, WMP 11, and some other Media Extender from RedKawa and none of them work.
My PS3 doesn't show up in WMP, or on any other media center program.
Is there anything I need to do on the PS3 to make it show on my network? I already turned on the allow media server thing.

I'm not using wmp to stream it because at any given time wmp's network service will use HALF of my processing power... on a 3.2ghz pentium 4.

what the hell did you do for that to happen? i hope your exagerating, becuse i use wmp to stream to both the 360 and the ps3 almost simultaneously all day with the service using like 5% tops not even. and i have a 3.0 pentium 4 with hyperthreading (only1 gig ram tho ) . hoever i did just upgrade to that from a 2.8 4 months ago.
back to the question, basically both of them dont even recognise each other? try iwt with wmp and if it can recognise with that you can at least take it from there. and is it wireless or wired?

I have tried both. Like, i tried pc and ps3 wired, pc and ps3 wireless, pc wired ps3 wireless, and pc wireless ps3 wired. Nothing.
And i know i'm not the only one who has that wmp bug where it overloads on processing power, i was reading guides on how to do this, someone else made a comment about wmp hogging it up, and then i checked and saw how much it was using. i was like "oh, that's why my pc has been so laggy lately."
i guess i can retry wmp now that i put my ps3 in a dmz...

Alright. Finally got it to work.
It was McAfee. I disabled the firewall, Ps3 found my PC. Looked around a bit, and I think this is what fixed it when I re-enabled the firewall:
From security center (using the advanced view)...
Internet & Network-> Configure-> Firewall protection...advanced-> System services
From here, basically just enable everything by checking it. I'm fairly certain that "windows file sharing" and "UPnP" are the ones that make it work, but I put most of the other stuff on as well.
Hope that helps someone else too. And I don't think that the in-game XMB can come fast enough. Wow, it's amazing what a day off of school can do. I fixed my network problems for my PS3, reinstalled ubuntu so that my nvidia drivers actually work now (had to choose safe graphics mode from install CD), and got my friends old laptop to surf the web on.
