Kojima wants the highest quality possible. Completely uncompressed 7.1 audio and very slightly compressed visuals would be hard to fit on a blu-ray. Can't blame him. He is given the opportunity with blu-ray, and he is taking full advantage of it.
Kojima is a perfectionist.
Compression technology is pretty good nowadays, and he could compress a lot of the textures to make them smaller with pretty much NO difference. But the real problem is the audio. Compressed audio is always going to sound not as good, and that is what is taking up a lot of the space.
But all of this really doesn't mean much anymore. Kojima said a little while back that the game is done, and it is now in polishing, and working out the bugs right now. So the game is done.

That's insane, I didn't realize a game could become so huge.

Very true... and this fact could get him into trouble, once the game gets delayed because of it.
Doesn't matter to me... I won't complain... I'd rather have the "perfect" MGS4, as opposed to a half-crocked game that he should have never stamped his name on.

I'm hoping he has too much power for them to say no if he needs another delay. This is (supposedly) the lsat game, might as well make it the best.
And by best, I don't mean best MGS ever. I mean best game ever.

Kojima has said, absolutely, positively no more delays. He said the game was done, just polishing it up.

Even though this was spoken by one of my favorite developers, there are outside forces beyond his control, in regards to a game being released.
But as I said the other day... it doesn't matter to me... because I tend to follow one of Shigeru Miyamoto's quotes:
"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."

Every metal gear game is loaded with cut scenes, but some of the best one's though I've ever scene in a game. He should've gone with two discs, like with MGS1.

fixed
I lol'd at the picture of MGS4 and it was 23435 disks. The idea of this game being more than 50gb is awesome. That means this will be the most epic adventure ever.
