Bump. I was searching around for the in-game XMB on Google to see if there was anything new and there was.

This was from before the latest update
PS3 In-Game XMB Ready To Release, Home Coming Soon : dBTechno
Quote:
Washington (dbTechno) - The highly-anticipated Home for the Sony PS3 is apparently getting very close to release, as reports are also coming out that the in-game XMB for the PS3 is complete, which will allow for in-game and cross-game chatting, as well as the ability to pull up music and messages whenever you desire. According to the Official PlayStation Forums, the PSedge dev kit has received an update.
The poster stated that there have been many new updates including new things added specifically for Home. One of the new big updates is that games must now be able to integrate into Home, and also has to support “Accomplishments” which are Sony’s answer to Xbox Live Achievement Points on the Xbox 360.
It was also noted that the in-game XMB for the PS3 is about ready to go.
It was stated that every single game which is coming out now for the PS3 will support the in-game XMB, and all older releases will be updated via a patch.
PS3 fans can rejoice, it seems that Home is not far away, and the in-game XMB is about ready to release, get set for the next PS3 firmware update!

that sounds good at first, right up until you realize that phrases like "not far away", and "about ready to release" mean approximately squat in the development world.

don't get me wrong, i've got my fingers crossed and all that, but i'm not exactly holding my breath for either of these improvements to hit anytime soon.

There will be an open beta of Home before the final release, so I would say we will be waiting to at least August to play the final build.

The XMB I'm not excited about but it will be a nice addition.

I'm excited about the Achievements. I thought the PS3 already had them, and was dissappointed when I found out that it didn't. And XMB will be the balls.

I can tell you for sure that I noticed Uncharted had an "achievement" system in place... I want to say that they called them "rewards", or something like that.

Devil May Cry 4 had PS3 achievements (it worked through the PS3, not just the game) as well as a few other games. Also, what I heard is quite a few new games will have them. They will be integrated in with Home later.

Have you seen how the achievements thing will be set up in home? It looks like something I saw on Star Wars.

The achievements are also kinda like statues in a glass cabinet also. (For those who haven't seen it)

Here is a video, achievements are shown around 2:17, there is a better one but I can't find it.

Does anyone know whether or not the achievements will work with older PS3 games that we already completed? I don't see why the achievement system couldn't just read the saved file on our hard drive and then update upload them in the "completed" area.
