New PS3? (40gb, Gamespot rumour)

I really don't get why they're not offering software emulation on the 40gig. I believe it, but I don't understand it.

i dont mind the limited usb ports or the removal of the flash drives. the ps3 doesn't NEED that stuff. but the backwards compatability makes me scratch my head

News from IGN says Europe and the US will no longer be getting the 60GB model. We will only be able to purchase the 40GB one as soon as the 60GB models are depleted. Makes me glad I got mine when I did.

They are also saying the US is getting an 80GB model (old news?) but there are no details.

Do you really need a 60GB or 80GB hard drive? What all is the the hard drive being used for? Is it similar to the 360 where you can download stuff? I find it more reasonable to spend 399 instead of 599.

For a large majority of people it's too expensive. I would have to say 1 in 10 people own a ps3 maybe even 1 in 20.

well, to my knowledge, 3 (including me) people in my grade at my high school, own ps3s. but the $100 price drop might win some people over.

It's cheaper to produce the hardware without this feature being added... that's what I've always read and heard, anyway.
