Well the Folklore demo is up in the playstation store. I haven't gotten a chance to play a lot of it, but I did give it a quick run through. The graphics are really starting to show the power of the PS3.
I'll post more thoughts once I actually finish the demo.
For anyone that didn't know about the game, here's the profile of it on IGN.
I downloaded it and gave it a whirl, and I left hungry for more.
At first I was intimidated by the way people said you used monsters to fight for you, but it's actually easier than it sounds.
You capture them (beat them up, then take their souls [id]), then flick the SIXAXIS to get their id. If it's a new one, you can leave it in your menu, or equip it and use it. You can use 4 monsters at most (one for each face button, triangle, X, square, and circle), and I'd say I had a nice setup.
Anyway, I really liked the level/monster design, but it sucked how the demos levels were small (it isn't called a demo for nothing, huh?).
The bosses looked really cool, and they actually need strategy to beat (won't spoil it). I sat looking at the picture book for 5 minutes before I finally figured it out.
Anyway, time for my rambling to stop. Overall I'd say this is an 8.0+ game, just as long as the monsters have a nice variety (not rehashes with different design).

I plan on downloading this demo in a few minutes... especially since I found out that it's supposedly going to be taken off the PlayStation Store next Friday.
If there is one thing in the (gaming) world that I like, it's games like this one.

Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience!
I'm trying to beat the fokelore for ellen. Would be much easier if the friggin picture book wasn't in japaneese.
Hey cylon, can you give me a hand with that, maybe a hint what to do after the first step?
I still haven't beaten the demo. When I said I gave it a quick run through I meant that I played for five minutes and then shut it off.
I did play it again on Friday night and still have yet to beat it. I must be doing something wrong and I just haven't diverted all of my attention to it. I too had a hard time figuring out the picture book.
This is one of the things that I like about this game. It is not just a straight up fight the folks and then beat the level. There is a little thinking and figuring out to be done as well.

Watch out below, step-by-step instructions for beating the bosses coming up.
To defeat Ellen's boss, you first need to get up close and target one of the tentacles. Wait a bit and one of them will eventually start doing it's suction to prepare for the posion attack.
While it's sucking in air, use the giant spikey troll. He will get sucked inside and grow out his spikes. Afterward, the tentacle will fall. Now use that tiger-like Folk (has spikes and description says he's an old man) to slash the tentacles, It should take 5 cuts to destroy it.
Now repeat the process for the next tentacle.
Okay, the Folklore will now semi-die and sprout a flower on it's back. Get out the bird and the shield creator. Use the bird to attack, while using the shield when it launches a ball at you.
If you get knocked down, just run up again and keep attacking.
Eventually he'll die. Good job.
*On PS3, need new post*

Instructions for the second boss up ahead. Watch out!
Okay, to defeat Keates' boss you need to go up close and pull out Brammbear. Target one of the legs and use Brammbear until the outer layer of metal is destroyed. Now use any attack you want on the exposed leg (any attack) to make the Folklore fall on his face. Once he's down, go up and start attacking his head (any attack is fine). Shortly after he'll spit some fire, then get back up.
Just rinse and repeat (attack all the legs) until he's dead. All you need to worry about for this boss are his flames from his face (when he starts to get up) and his cannon.
Then you beat him, good job.

Crap... I completely forgot to download this the other day. Having the in-laws from out of town over at the house kept me away from the PS3 for most of the weekend... they like to play games on the Wii.
I'll download it this afternoon, once I get home from my 3D animation class... my thoughts will be posted after I play it for a bit.

Well, I defeated Ellen's boss. The picture book really helped, and like I said before, I'm glad that this game has incorporated something like this in the game.
I was just about to defeat Keats boss, but I got up to go answer the phone, and I thought I paused it. I came back and the game was back on the title screen since I apparently didn't pause the game and I ran out of life.
This game is definitely a great game, and I will be looking forward to the full version.
