Q. What is HDMI?
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. By delivering crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.
HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel, 192kHz, uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby Digital and DTS), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless digital audio formats Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.
1080i through HDMI is better because its a digital source, not analog... Displaying 1080i through either would most likely be negligible at best. Basic facts would be a good thing to know ahead of time.

It doesn't matter neither PS3 or 360 or any audio device, uses Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. It is still yet an unused audio format. All still use either uncompressed or compressed standardized Dolby, DTS, or THX audio.

PS3 actually does support Dolby TrueHD.
Also, MGS4= pure uncompressed audio, 7.1 surround sound, *drools*.
Now I just need to buy all that equipment to support it. >_>

They all support it, it's just not in use on anything yet, not even the theaters or high-end theaters. Uncompressed audio is nice (for obvious reasons), but once again, not that you don't know, 1.2 will easily support 7.1 THX sound, it is still not the same as HD sound though. Yea equipment cost is going to be expensive, like really expensive.

You can get Dobly TrueHD through the PS3 but you have to run the HDMI cable through a reciever.
Thanks to blu-ray though, a lot of audio will be uncompressed, where it will always be compressed on 360 games. From some previews I have heard of MGS4, you can pretty much pinpoint where an enemy is by the sound of bullets wizzing past your head.

Yea, thus is the downfall with using DL-DVD instead of a larger format disc. That was actually the only gripe I've ever had for Microsoft using it (uncompressed audio is night and day), instead of HD-DVD, but yet soon they will, since I'm gonna assume that the 360 with built-in HD-DVD drive is more than a rumor. Based on their track record of maybe and what-ifs that have all come to fruition in the past.

Yes, there has been a rumor of a 360 with a built in HD-DVD player, but it still won't be used for games. Only movies.
