Well I just went and bought a 1400 and the numbers on the thing got scratched off when I scratched it. Is there any remedy? A number that I can call? only some of the numbers got scratched, I am missing 4 or 5.

I've never had that happen to me before... sorry that I have no suggestions for you. Maybe calling the Microsoft help line could help? They might be able to look up the number somehow or someway...

Holy Frejoles
I'd call, it can't be the first time thats happened, but still I wouldn't expect a warm sympathy or easy compromise.
The store receipt should be adequet proof maybe if you haven't thrown it out the car window.

If you can prove you purchased it, simply call Microsoft customer service. (Or a number on the card if there is one)

Once you have proven purchase to them, they should deactivate the old card, and give you a new set of card numbers over the phone. Just enter them like you would have from the original card. Dont take it back to the shop you got it from, they probably wont help you.

I am saying this theoretically of course, this is what should happen but may not depending on which turbanator is on the other end of the phone.

Or an eraser... I've almost lost the code on the back of those cards because of it.

I always use another card of some type. It just pushes along the surface and can't get deep enough the interfere with the numbers.

Nickels usually work the best... they don't have the same kind of rough edges that dimes and quarters have. My other recommendation is using an eraser...
