Microsoft's extending warranty

I am sure I was the one who posted this last time.

Xbox.com | Open Letter From Peter Moore

News out of Microsoft says they officially extended the warranty of the xbox 360 to 3 years, but...

The warranty on the 360 will be the standard 1 year that was implemented last year. The 3 years will be only for those people experiencing the red rings of death.

Basically, anything will get fixed for 1 year, red rings will get fixed for 3. All aspects of the repair will be free including shipping both ways.

Since that is the worst of all 360 problems, they may as well just extended the entire warranty.

Warranty covers all consoles made so long as you purchased them within the 3 years, and all consoles to be made globally. Microsoft admit they haven't been doing a good enough job and have already made improvements to the console. You will be reimbursed if you paid for repairs after the 1 year warranty, but only if your problem was the rings.

I'm happy since UK 360's break more than the US ones (source), so im safe if that hapens to me.

I'd rather them give me back the 399 i spent on the facking thing and let me use it towards a PS3, because mine has been freezing ALOT during RSV lately.

Yah, we have been talking about this in the Guess What thread. That thread is a mass collection of about 20 different possible threads, lol.

But it is nice that Microsoft is finally being mature enough to admit mistakes and are taking SOMEWHAT of an action towards it.

But, if they extended it for 3 years, it might just because they don't plan on fixing anything for awhile, that is what I figure.

YES, Oxford wants to leave the dark side as well. Creep is with yah! lol. Go check out the PS3 price drop thread I made in the PS3 forum. It is very possible that it will happen in a week, the day following E3. So, if you seriously think about getting a PS3, be sure to check it out!

Zero, I've said from the beginning I wasn't really impressed at all by my 360, nor any of the games I've played. I love RSV, but mainly because terrorist hunt is so ****ing addicting. I think I've been one of the choice few that actually read your posts, and thought "I've said this **** to my friends every damn time one of them says '360's are better'". And knowing from first hand how terrible Microsoft's CS is doesn't help.

Also NOT helping is the fact that NOTHING and I mean NOTHING with the name SONY on the side/front/back/wtfe that is sitting in my household has NEVER had to be sent in to be fixed or anything like that. I don't know if we just have good luck, or if we keep good care of our stuff, but anything electronic that says SONY on it, is something i expect (and do) keep until they are out of style.

Sony IS a hardware company, it is what they do. Microsoft is a software company, and even their software needs constant updates and patches for about a year straight for it to be worth having. The PS2 did have some problems, I went through 2, one last 2 years, the other is still going strong for 5 years, so I am satisfied. Sony always has quality products.

I notice that Microsoft are having mass failures, but so does everyone else.

My Brother's PlayStation never worked right out of the box, having to send it back to the store, luckily those days you didn't send them back to Sony. My Dad's PSP broke, it was a known problem with them but he decided to take it apart in turn voiding the warranty. One of my 2 of my 4 PS2's have broke, each with the same failure over 2 years apart. So its not just Microsoft that has teething problems.

I am one of the lucky ones who has had a stable 360, but I do still feel for those who have had problems both with their console and customer service.

Just be grateful Microsoft did extend the warranty, its more than most companies do. And like zero said, Microsoft are best in software. Some would argue they should have stayed in the software field, but they ventured into the hardware market and are doing pretty good. They are 30% over their comfortable failure rate, no one is denying that, but they are actually doing something about it. Give them that at least.

I don't see the need for an argument about Sony Vs Microsoft here, Microsoft are extending the warranty, that's all that needs to be said. Non one cares what they could have previously down to prevent it, just be grateful for it.

But they need to do a lot more. Extending the warranty does nothing but makes people not pay for repairs, but users will constantly be weeks on end without a console while it is getting fixed. A extended warranty won't get them more customers, and it won't keep all of their customers. THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE HARDWARE.

In the letter they did say the consoles have been changed, but honestly I cant see it been a big enough change to help the cause. I think it only relates to the Elite also, so it wont help like I said.

I too think the 360 needs to be drastically changed, but they are at a stage now where they will most likely abandon the 360 and create a new console. They did this with the first xbox.

I hope they upgrade the hardware, but an you see it happening? For right now, this is the best thing they are giving us so its a good thing.

I do agree with what you are saying, but it wont happen anytime soon.

I've always thought of how we'd have one dependable system with a user friendly interface if SONY took care of all of the hardware, and Microsoft the software. Too bad that'll never happen.

If they made a console how you say, it would easily be the best console on the market.

You would have the good hardware from Sony, with the good game titles from Microsoft. Along with each of them adding their own specialization.

If this idea was brought up by someone in power maybe before the PS2, it would probably have been made.
