The white DVD screen?

for the last 2 weeks my 360 has been spazzing out on me, none of my games will load the first time i try to play them, they'll go to the white "please insert dvd" screen in english and japanese. most times i have to take the disc out and give it a little quarter turn and try it twice before i hear the fans kick on and the game will start up.

for some reason EA games are the worst about this. carbon usually takes at least 7 tries even though the disc is still flawless, but tiger woods is also a pain requiring an average of 5 tries.

the weird part is that most of the time the game name will show up in the bottom window gizmo on the dashboard, but when you hit "play: need for speed, carbon." it just goes to the white screen.

i'm not getting any ring of light error codes or anything like that so i'm not sure what's going on, i think my 360 is just possesed or something. has anybody else had this problem?

by the way, mine is one of the original 360's (if that matters), but this is the first problem it's given me so far.

That exact thing happened to me, I could play Halo but not RSV or NBA Live. My 360 had also scratched my 360 games. I had to send it in and get it "fixed", so you should probably call them.

calling microsoft wouldn't do me any good, i'm going to start moving within the next 2 weeks and then i'll be tied up with remodeling my new place for the next 6 months. i won't have time to deal with shipping it, checking on the progress, recieving it, and all that crap. i'm so far past my warranty date that they'd probably just laugh at me over the phone anyway.

i'll most likely run a lens cleaner through it and see if that fixes the problem, if not then i'll sell it to my jackass cousin for 250 and just go buy a new one.

I've had a weird thing happen with my "new" 360... I tried playing MLB2K7 earlier today, and my game froze and rebooted in the middle of one of the innings. Then I tried playing a brand new copy of Spider-Man 3 in my 360, and I am getting the "disc is dirty message" on it... a brand new copy??? You've got to be effin kidding me...

Yet my copy of GH2 works like a charm, Gears of War appears to loadup just fine, and games on my HDD work perfectly fine.

I am soooo mad right now, it's not even funny.

Anyone have a suggestion? Of course, aside from the calling Microsoft deal I could try... until, of course, I have to ultimately break down and call their Indian customer service center... for the second time in as many weeks.

(And smartazz comments from you, Zero, will be deleted. Sorry... but I had to say it.)

Creep,
Try looking for scratches(i'm sure you already have), even if you don't see any, rub rubbing alcohol on the disc then dry it off, this will make hardly-seeable hairline scratches to appear and it will remove any dirt or smudges. I'm not sure if it'll work, give it a shot though.

Yeah, I've checked for smudges and/or scratches on the discs... that was the first thing I looked for. As I said earlier, the Spider-Man 3 disc was brand spankin' new... and the MLB2K7 disc was as mint as the first day I bought it.

I took both games over to my brother's house, and they worked just fine in his 360... eh, I'll probably try cleaning both discs anyway, just to see if they play on my system after that.

believe it or not i've actually had 2 brand new discs that were too clean. when i got my copy of lost planet from game fly it was brand new and absolutely perfect, but it wouldn't load up at all, i kept getting the "this disc is unreadable" error. my nephew said to put a small thumb smudge on it so i did and the presto! it works perfectly after that.
