Need help, debating 360 vs PS3
So I have heard the arguments for PS3, but I am skeptical. I am looking at buying either a 360 or a PS3. Please help. Give me some good reasons to buy a 360 over a PS3.

1) Is it true PS3 has better processors that will make their games superior in a year or two? If not, please provide proof.

2) Are the graphics going to be better for the PS3? That is what I heard.

3) Is it true the Version 1.8 for PS3 upgrades standard DVD's into 1080p?

4) Is it true that they are having difficulty making PS3 games?

I am so confused.....I need help deciding, not just PS3 sucks responses. As you can tell this is my 1st post ever and would like some serious help. Given that you are all 360 "fanboys".....whatever that means, give me some proof that 360 is better.

Pros and cons regarding both consoles can be found in these threads:

My recommendation is to do plenty of research before you make a decision... and for your information, "fanboy" is kind of a bad word to use... especially when you're asking for help.

Maybe, maybe not. It's up to the dev's to show us the power. But if you were to look at the schematics it would mean that the PS3 is more powerful, but the 360 makes prettier games.

2) Are the graphics going to be better for the PS3? That is what I heard.

Well, some dev's have said that they will be, and others say they won't. But for now, no.

3) Is it true the Version 1.8 for PS3 upgrades standard DVD's into 1080p?

Yes, with an HDTV.

4) Is it true that they are having difficulty making PS3 games?

Yes, it's just like when the PS2 launched, it has new technology in it that dev's aren't familiar with, thus creating problems and sorting out the weak from the strong ( the weak complain and don't try, while the strong overcome the difficulties and make good games). After a few years, games will look much better as dev's get more comfortable with the gear they're working with, and as more tools are released to work with the PS3.

I am so confused.....I need help deciding, not just PS3 sucks responses. As you can tell this is my 1st post ever and would like some serious help. Given that you are all 360 "fanboys".....whatever that means, give me some proof that 360 is better.
One last thing, this site is actually pretty good when it comes to fanboys, they don't last long (no one to bond with), and almost all the regulars are straight up when it comes to being honest.

Now just be sure to look at the games, and see which one's fit your style. Right now, the 360 has a much larger variety of games, but soon the PS3 will have some more spreading across the genre's.

With the 360, the only thing you have to worry about is the 3 red rings of death. With the PS3, you have to be patient and wait for the good games to come out.

Short term : The 360 has got it going on.

Long term : I would edge towards the PS3. But this is going to be atleast a year or 2 down the road. The jury is still out on this one.. They are ages behind the 360 currently in so many areas.

PS3 Pros:
-Good Quality, low chance of breaking
-Promising Future
-Several good games coming out
-Upscaling of PS1/PS2/DVDs (Looks good too)
-Charging controllers from your console, no extra things to buy
-It is shiney
-PS3 has a good processor, developers are already getting to see what it can do
-Free Online
-Blue ray discs allows more things in games, and can drastically cut loading time. Pretty much no compression. (Lair, 7.1 uncompressed sound, enough said)
-PSP to PS3 connectivity
-True 1080p
-Web Browser
-Long lasting technology
-Upcoming Home system
-60 gig harddrive
-MGS4
-Curing cancer
-Stable Online

Cons:
-Collects dust fast
-A developers first game could be a task for them, doesnt mean it wont be great though
-600 dollars, although it is a con to some, but others dont mind
-No rumble (AS OF YET, will be in the future)
-Currently, right this second, only few good games
-Ports from 360 to PS3 are usually worse. 360 ruins it, goes from a simple architecture to a more complicated one, and fudges stuff up.

360 Pros:
-Cheaper then the PS3
-Up to a 120 gig harddrive
-A lot of Downloadable Content
-Achievements
-Has more better games at the moment, but has had a year head start (If you ask me, there are really only a few good games, to my liking atleast)
-Easier to Develop more
-slightly more powerful graphics card, but, that wont make a different, all up to devs
-It has green lights
-Has some great games coming out
-1 year head start
-Stable online (Were paying, so it really should be better, but my opinion again)

Cons:
-It will break, just a matter of time, some longer then others (A lot of hardware failure)
-white shows dirt
-Getting ripped off on occasion on downloadable content
-Not that many great games (But again, depends on who you ask)
-It has red lights
-Not as strong of a processor (But easier to develop for)
-No Web Browser
-Recorded Problems of overheating
-Wireless controllers use up batteries fast, or you have to spend money on chargers.
-DVD9, less space, games are compressed, lowering quality
-Pay for online
-+200 more dollars for High Def Movies, equalling the price of the PS3, even though the PS3 can already do this

I hope my post helped, and didnt piss people off. I think I was pretty fair!

When I look at buying a system I look at two things, amount of memory, and variety of games. Now, don't put 360 up over PS3 just yet in the amount of memory factor. Even though the 360 now has a 120GB hard drive, Sony has announced the developing of an 80GB system. It's still not what the 360 Elite has, but it's a great jump from the original system's memory. The variety of games comes down to your preference. If you like games like Halo, Gears of War, etc. Then 360 is your system. If you like games like Socom(future), Final Fantasy, or God of War, the the PS3 is the system you may want to think about getting.

I hope this helped. Like Creep said, do plenty of research before you decide.

You won't find any fanboys here. They tend to get weeded out. Instead you'll find 360 owners, who can be realistic about the pros and cons of their box.

NUN-PUNCHER can probably give the best input on this topic, because he's got both systems.

I weighed my decision between purchasing a 360 or a PS3 long and hard before I bought my 360.

1) Is it true PS3 has better processors that will make their games superior in a year or two? If not, please provide proof.
On paper the PS3 is superior, but we haven't seen it yet. Take the Lamborghini Murciélago super-car. It is a superior machine, but if you were handed the keys to one, you wouldn't be able to drive it well at first.

Game developers are facing silimar problems with the PS3. Because of it's multiple processor architecture, they have a large learning curve in terms of getting the most out of the machine.

Look at God of War for the PS2. In terms of graphics and gameplay, it was the best game ever for the PS2. God of War could not have come out when the PS2 launched because no one knew how to get the PS2 to work that well. Instead it took several years to release the ultimate game for that system.

2) Are the graphics going to be better for the PS3? That is what I heard.
The root of great graphics is the number of polygons that can be rendered on screen without the framerate dropping. Then after that it comes to light and shading, colors and texture, and what the overall design is. The PS3 will be able to eventually render more polygons than the 360, but again, see my answer to your first question. No one knows how to realize the full capabilities of the PS3 yet.

3) Is it true the Version 1.8 for PS3 upgrades standard DVD's into 1080p?
It's true that it upscales standard definition DVDs to a degree of high definition, though I'm not sure if it specifically goes to 1080p. You'll need to research that on your own. However, this really shouldn't be important to you at the moment because your TV only goes to 720p.

Personally, I chose the 360 because of the quality of it's content. It's going to take 2-3 years for the PS3 to surpass the 360 in any area. Plus by that point the price should drop.

Ultimately the deciding factor for me was the Xbox Live service. Sure it's $50 a year, which is like $4 a month, but the service is outstanding and reliable. It's very robust and easy to use.

The ultimate con to the 360 is hardware failures. If you buy a 360, you should buy it expecting it to need a visit to Texas for repairs within the first year. The bright side to this is that Microsoft's free warranty and great service make it not so much of an issue. My 360, which I bought November '06, just broke down on April 27th. I got my repaired 360 back yesterday. The process of getting it repaired was fairly painful, and free of charge.

I read on IGN that the new update does allow the upscaling of DVD's to 1080p.

Makes me glad to see that someone noticed that I mentioned this in my post... it's definitely something that I do each and every time a new console is launched.

If I didn't do any research, I would have been one of the unfortunate ones that waited endlessly and had to absolutely have a Sega Saturn when it was first launched... and trust me, I was SOOOO close to getting one. Lucky for me, I made the better decision that time around by getting my grubby mitts on a PS1 when it launched... research research research, my friends.

And even though I did the research before I got an Xbox 360, I still think it is a damn fine system. Even though it broke down (perhaps from my own fault, who knows exactly) 14 months after I got it, I still think it's a damn fine system.

Everyone that knows me IRL has it in their heads that I will own a PS3 soon enough... more of them are shocked that I still don't have a PS3, but that's another story for later... I just wasn't overly hyped about their launch titles for me to get one first thing last November. Especially considering that I was one of the first 250,000 (or whatever the exact number) that waited out in store lines to get the first PS2s with that lackluster launch lineup... Sony has just stung me too many times for me to ever again be another one of their biggest supporters... I'll leave that job for someone else, thankyaverymuch.

MGS4 launch = Creep owning a PS3 very soon.
