Red Ring of Death (360 breakdowns)

My last console started to scratch discs and wouldn't read 360 games after 2 days of play. My 2nd console is the one with the RROD.

Today I called MicroCenter Support, since my warranty is expired and explained to her that I have a broken 360 but its not the same on the recepit due to Microsoft sending me a refurbed one. I'm then told I need to fax proof that they took in the first, and gave me the second before they could claims out that console in order to send me another. So, I had to call Microsoft. I spoke to an Arab WOMAN (twice as hard to understand). After countless times of her saying ok Jane...Drew and her telling me what the RROD is (like I need to know, kinda my job to know this **** anyways...) she tells me my warranty is expired. To which i say "Yeah..." and explained to her AGAIN that I needed something to fax MC. BUT, it seems that the 3 year warranty protects EVERY 360 console. Meaning, you have a 3 year warranty to protect against only the RROD, and one year for any other problems.

I wonder how that whole three years thing works. Is it when you bought it, or for the manufacturing date for the console? Mine was under three years in both of those sections, but I still don't know what they go by for the warranty.

It's always the purchase date, with any piece of equipment. It's not your fault if you buy some stock that's been sitting in the back room for 3 years. As long as you keep the reciept, you're golden.

Make sure you don't accidentally say you did anything to your XBOX over the phone, including the towel trick. If you mention anything, they'll delete your free warranty. Well, that's what I've heard anyway. Unless you don't mind wasting money of paying Microsoft to get it fixed, or buying a new console entirely, then I wouldn't test the validity that rumor.

Thankfully mine is still under warranty and a box is heading my way. The guy who help me (also an Arabian) was pretty helpful. Hell, I was only on the phone for about 3 minutes.

So how long does it take for the box to come? The 360s go to somewhere in Texas right?

I was downloading a demo with the machine off, then I noticed that the center light that flashes wasn't flashing, so I turned it off then back on and I got a checkered screen. After about 10 more times it finally rred.

I got my 360 back today, and I bought Grand Theft Auto IV this afternoon. It really was my 360, though! Same serial number on the back as before. The only difference, was that they sent me out a new power brick. Either it was new, or a different one. It had a differents serial number. I've noticed that it runs quieter and the disc drive thing opens a lot quieter and smoother.

I don't have any cooling fans for it, so I guess I'm just going to wing it and see how long this one takes me. I think this whole warranty proccess took me about 3 and 1/2 weeks.

I just got the Red Rings of Death over the weekend.

I have an elite to. It's ridiculous. It doesn't matter much to me though.

I'm taking a break from gaming for a bit (while I mail it in) and I get a brand new Elite.
