no it's not ridiculous that it's breaks, it's ridiculous that people are so addicted to it that even before the 3 years warranty upgrade, they would buy multiple replacements out of pocket instead of a stable well built system like the Wii or PS3. It's pathetic that the consoles break so much, shows how much effort microsoft really put into the system.

It was their curved look that caused the problems.
Its fixed will all the new console's though so it should be good.

I read in an article somewhere, I'll try to dig it up, that the 360's curved design is what caused all the overheating and mechanical hardware failure.
I know that Microsoft has fixed this problem with the elites, not sure about new released 360's though

the problem was they used a specific lead based sodder that melted under the system's heat and thus causing massive hardware failure. They've changed the sodder and added better heatsinks.

behold,
for you, are lucky enough to witness a testimony of a miraculous towel fix!!!
XD
so, yes, my 360 gave me the rings (again, had it fixed before, stuff was changed inside, new and better fan and all. not by MS. some local store.) by the time Halo 3 came out.
i said, "i already paid to fix it, screw this" and i took out the towels and all that. bottom line: i got Halo 3 the Thur. of the same week it was released. 360 has been working since then. no problems.
pretty much im setting a record for a towel fix, huh? LOL.
please have in mind that my 360 has already been fixed before this happened (stuff got tuned and bolts were tightened and stuff). so maybe that's why my 360 was in better shape (internally, compared to a factory 360) to take on a red ring attack. XD and to properly survive a towel fix

LOL the ps3 and wii don't even come close as far as decent games are concerned. I'd rather send my console in and wait vs buying one of the other systems. I do own a wii as well but it gets virtually no play time at all, and when i do play it, i play wii sports. The rest of the games for the system are extremely weak.

hardware failure?
hi
ive recentley had my 360 crash whilst playing oblivion and then three red lights appeared so i called the microsoft people and they said they would sent a courier to come pick it up. they came. they fixed. they delivered. after 3 weeks of insane waiting i finally recieved my repaired console and noticed that they definatley opened it up cos the microsoft sticker had been removed from behind the faceplate. The actual damaged part of the 360 was the motherboard, the pcb inside the box that has a gpu and cpu mounted on it, that is mounted to the case really dodgey so when it gets hot it kinda moves a bit and eventually the cheapo solder on the board melted and ruins the contacts on the processors resulting in a system hardware failure. all because microsoft rushed the 360 and used cheap components.

Actually. The premiums and elites are not fixed. They are the same old. They been promising the 65nm processores for over a year now, but they never seem to come out. While Sony just kind of snuck under the radar and put in 65nm processors in the 40 gig PS3s, even when the PS3 really doesn't need it.
