I need advice please and thank you.

My friends brother is selling his 360, that comes with a 20 gb hard drive, and Halo 2 for XBOX, and a wireless controller for 250 bucks. Im probably going to buy it, Im just wondering if it red ringed and I didnt have a recipt or the box it comes in, could I still send it back to Microsoft for a refurbished or new one? Would they replace it without a receipt or box?

They don't care about the receipt/box for a Microsoft Warranty Repair.

All you need is your name, address, phone number, and the serial number on the console. They'll send you a box in the mail, with everything in it to send it back to them, with instructions. Of course, if it's out of warranty, then you might have to pay them, but if it red rings, I assume they'll tack on 3 years to the console's warranty.

I'm sure he's about 1000% sure on that since he is exactly right.

And since I bought mine from some random guy that lived near me from Craigslist, didn't get the box from him, didn't have a receipt, and have sent my 360 back twice.......I'm definitely 100% sure.

There's a interesting new article in the newest addition of OXM about the Red Ring O Death. One of the lead 360 designers blamed the problems on the curved outer shell of the 360 saying that it causes the inside of the 360 overheat more and melts solder joints at any loction on the board thus causing the random breakdowns.
Like I said, interesting article but didn't tell me too much I didn't already know.

It's an article that's definitely worth reading... after I read it, I don't feel as unlucky as I once did. There were people in there that have had to send their 360s in for repairs eight or nine times... I plan on (permanently) trading in my pig of a 360 once the fourth breakdown happens.

Play your 360 for about 8 hours straight, then turn it on the next day and play 4 hours straight, then the next day you will have the rings.

And that's how the rings usually occur, some people say they take care of their 360s but how long do they play their 360s for in 1 day? That is the important question, you can be over heating your 360 now and the over heating wont effect the 360 until a day or two.

Me and my friend have played for over 12 hours, there were breaks but we left it on and have been playing at leas 4 hours a day since, and nothing. The only problem is it freezes when I try to look at one of my friends gamer card, and the fact that I often misplace the controller, don't ask how, its like a remote, I loose them often but find them soon after.
