When you purchase at the store
When you purchase at the store, it must get activated from the cash register. You've either stolen them, or the cashier person did not activate your card. I've purchased from walmart and they worked fine.

They don't "activate" the cards for you at the store... you need to open the blister pack that they're sold in just to scratch away the covering to reveal the numbered code.

That may be the way they are at your store.
But where i've purchased, they are easy to steal and they must be activated at the cash register to redeem your point on XBL.
They may not require that at all places but that's the way it is where I reside.

And where do you reside? Bizarro-world? Another country?

I've purchased mine in different cities and states, and it's all done the same way. I'd choke a cashier out if they tried to open up the blister pack (that these cards are sold in) while I was standing right there.

Sorry, but I just don't believe what you're trying to say here.

I know what hes talking about, they do it where I live too. (FL)

In my local stores, the card is on the shelf. No wrapping, no box. Just the card is hanging on the shelf.

You pick it up, and then take it to the cashier. At the back of the card on the bottom, you may see a black magnetic strip. The cashier basically has to swipe that strip before the card can be used.

If they don't swipe it, it simply wont work when you scratch the thing off and enter the number on the Market Place.

(They also do it with pre-paid phone cards, the XBL cards, etc.)

I personally think its a good idea. Anyone can walk into Wal-Mart or wherever and pic up he card, pocket it, and walk out. This system doesn't prevent it, but it prevents them from walking away with a card that works.

Strange... they sell them in plastic blister packs here in Illinois & Wisconsin. The only thing a cashier has to do is scan the UPC code for the $19 selling price.

Very odd...

Yea I think its odd.

There is only one place I have seen them in a package: Virgin Megastore.

Split second thinking just now rationalizes them not putting them in a package because probably some tard cut through half the card trying to get it out of the packaging, then trying to take it back to the shop?

I don't know, I have a weird and simple mind.

I bought some trhough using the credit card and it's guaranteed to work because if you buy the prepaid cards, the code might not work... happened to me before.
