That was one of the things I was thinking about with the PS3. I had in my mind that you could gain points on 360 without paying money, so it had the edge online over PS3, because you have to buy everything there.
I guess Amazon's deal for 1600 points isn't too bad though.
Only 19.85, but most of the things are priced at ~80-800 points.
So, how's the downloading times on Demos/accessory packs?
And does anybody have an Xbox Vision Camera?
|
Best way to add points is to press X in the marketplace and pick from there, it saves you the time from happening to shop online or go to the store.
Times for downloading are pretty slow depending on your connection, like me i have high speed dsl, and it takes a while to download 500mb
i have a XBL Vision Camera, its pretty cool, you can make your own Avatars with it and its used to play a arcade game called totem ball, a good exercising game, sometimes frustrating but fun.

Speak for yourself... DSL is "slow" high speed internet to begin with. The only slow download that I've EVER had on my 360 would have to be a 1GB file that I downloaded a few months ago... and that was for the Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 demo.
Conflicted... if you have cable high speed internet, you should spend almost no time at all when you download small files... accessory packs on games take me seconds to download.

I have Cable Broadband Internet (whatever you want to call it) and I can download gamerpics, game updates, clothing packs (saints row) in about 10-30 seconds. Also remember my connection is shared with 4 computers and a laptop 24/7 so it would be faster if it wasn't shared.
It takes me about an hour or so to download the larger demos such as the one Creep mentioned (that was a hugeeeee file!) but the smaller demos take usually around half the time. If you get bored of waiting, go to sleep, or just play a game.
I was looking into buying a vision camera last night but you get a headset and a 1 month card for XBL with it so I would be buying stuff I already have.
I just found some nice info in Game Informer magazine about some new peripherals they may be creating for us to use on the 360. I will make a thread later.

Ps3 online is much better imo, an owner of both systems I feel that Ps3 is easier to navigate, downloads are quicker and such. Plus, when they get the rights, they will be authorizing movie downloads and such. 360 online is good, just not up to par with Ps3

Yeah, I've got the Comcast...just tested my connection and it turns out I have 6 mbps download, and 360 kbps upload (A sign from above!)
Do online games such as GoW and R6V have a sophisticated online setup?
Such as names for your games you setup, or ways you can join a room your friend is in? Mostly referring to Socom-esque features.
I read libertine's post in the GoW thread about making your game unique, so I'm supposing the setup isn't all that Advanced. And the thing about hosts, if the host leaves does the room get booted?
( I suppose these are more GoW related, although if another noteworthy game is similar I'd like to know)

Sorry but no consoles online service is better then 360, microsoft is a much smarter company and think more about what the costumers want.
360 has movie downloads, ok maybe renting but almost the same thing, its not like you want to see the movie more then 1 time, it gets boring fast, 360 also has shows that can be downloaded and kept forever, 360 has the best feedback system, people accually get banned unlike sonys feedback, 360 has a dashboard which can be customized, and plus you got the achievement system which encourages the player to beat the game, making the game funner and more challanging...
XBL is the best online expirience, they have game content on the marketplace for ALOT of games including Need For Speed Carbon, they have car downloads...

Yeah. Opinions are overrated anyways.

I want your input then...
Who has the better user features?
On PS3 can you see which of your friends are on?
Can you see what games they're playing?
Can you join their games directly?
Can you send voice messages?
Can you send video/pic messages?
Can you private chat while in a game?
Can you video chat?
Can you play games/do other things while you download content?
Can you stream music to the PS3 for in-game play (not store on HD)?
Is it easy to get online with games (meaning do you have to do anything more than put the game in)?
Do you have to make your name for each game online (read you had to do this on Resistance)?
Truthfully, how is lag?
I closely researched and compared the features of each system before finally making a purchase, and I have to say the 360 put PS3 to shame.
Then again I'm a Quality > Quantity guy, so I could give a rip of who's got more to download...

I agree completely with you here...this is why I waited so long to purchase either. I wanted to read reviews/specs of the PS3 that were sure things, not the rumors of what it would have or could have. And the bottom line was that the PS3's online setup did not compare to that of the 360..so I chose the 360, and I have always been a PS guy.
**Disclaimer-I do not own a PS3, I am merely sharing with the group the breakdown of the reviews I did read.**
