My thoughts on the PS3 vs 360 fiasco
[In response to the shortages thread by bigmike, and other threads about the PS3 and 360.]
-------
I don't mean to troll the PS3 sections, but the 360 was released with a dozen or so fantastic games including Perfect Dark Zero, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Call of Duty 2. If the PS3 isn't going to be released with good games, and it's going to be expensive, what is the point of buying one (if you can what with all the shortages and all).
The PS3 will retain 2, maybe 3 solid titles which will be available only for the PS3. Every other title they thought they had has since switched over to 360 or have become multi-platform companies. The 360 is less expensive, the tech support is more helpful, and they acknowledged a problem with the earlier 360s and have repaired each one for free and have refunded the customers who have already had to pay for those repairs.
The 360 is coming out with hundreds of exclusive titles which are already getting hype. The announcements of nearly 50 games on Wednesday at "X06" on top of the games which were already released, and those already on their way in mid October to mid November, will create a game basis which PS3 will not be able to touch for the next couple of years.
About 10 good games are being released within 2 weeks of the PS3 launch in either direction. These include the great games which expect to be top sellers for the 360 in the next few months. Gears of War, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Need for Speed: Carbon, Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
I won't be running all over trying to find a PS3. For Christmas, I believe parents will buy their kids 360s over the PS3 for convenience and the already bolstering game basis. PS3 might sell all of their systems set for release date, but then again that is only a puny 500,000 units. I believe we will see more 360 sales from the release date of PS3 to the end of the holiday season than what Sony even expects to launch by the end of the holiday season.
Not to mention Sony is taking a bath on these systems. They lowered the price of their rediculously overrated system to a point in which they are losing money on each console. Don't expect much from Sony this holiday. As they said, the "good" games (if you want to call them that, since they will already be out for 360 in most cases for several weeks) won't be released for PS3 until March-April. By that time 360 intends to add a couple dozen unique titles to their game list.
And those of you who expect PS3 to be the best system in the world, please don't get upset when there are bugs and glitches with the system. The Xbox360 isn't unique. All systems have bugs and errors. PS3 won't be perfect, and those of you who bring it up to those standards will be supremely dissapointed. At least Microsoft got it together and fixed the 360s. They are running flawlessly now. Sony will need to go through the entire ordeal. The only difference is now the customers have a system already tweaked to perfection with a larger game basis to turn to when their PS3 fails them.
PS3 is the future of gaming? Hardly.
I just looked it up.
PS3 Games at release (Orange Highlighted ones are already out on 360 or will be at the PS3 release time):
11/08
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
11/14
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
F.E.A.R.
Madden NFL 07
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
11/17
Bladestorm: Hundred Years War
Call of Duty 3
Fatal Inertia
Genji: Days of the Blade
MotorStorm
NBA 07
Need for Speed Carbon
NHL 2K7
Resistance: Fall of Man
12/19
NBA Live 07
15 total games, and 5 unique games in the first 2 months after release and within the holiday season. Blazing Angels is the only one I have even heard of. That didn't look too appealing from the information I recieved, though. Please enjoy those games, guys. We will be enjoying our dozen or so unique titles which are going to be released in those months....not to mention the multi-platform titles which are orange above.
Nevermind. Blazing Angels will be released for the Nintendo Wii at the same time as the PS3 and is already out on the 360. I didn't even notice, because we have so many. It isn't a unique game. That lowers it to just 5 unique games within the first 2 months for PS3. Now none of which I have heard of before looking this information up.
This also means Sony won't have a unique game released until a week after their initial release of the console. Not to mention that week it will be competing against 3 unique title releases for the 360. Also, 6 total unique title releases in that month for 360. Even with lowered prices and if they had available units, I'm not sure Sony can compete with the game basis for this holiday season.
The next couple months will be truly fun to watch.

This is just my little thought, but didn't the 360 have any even bigger craptacular launch setup than the PS3? And won't Sony be releasing more consoles for launch than the 360 did at launch?
And who really needs 14 games anyway at launch? That's just above $800 (if they're all $60), if they only release 3 or 4 games that are good, then I'll get the ones that I want from that. I'm only expecting to have 3 or 4 by Christmas time (I'm only saying that because I don't keep up with the release date changes), which is more than enough for me.
So instead of getting your jolly's by comparing a gaming setup for a console that's been out for a year, why not wait until the PS3's been out for a year and then compare their second year line-up to the 360's.
It's not that I hate the 360, it's just that I don't want one. There have been times that I've wanted one, but there really aren't any MUST HAVE GAMES out there. The only really big titles of theirs that I've heard of that makes men squeal like girls is GOW (Gears Of War, for the abbreviation-ally challenged) and Halo 3. The games I've heard of for the PS3 are Resistance :FOM (Fall Of Man, you abbreviation hating b@stards!), Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13 (both versions), (these next two may not be as big, but they still got the hype) Assassins Creed (did they say this was for 360 as well?), and DMC4 (Devil May Cry 4). Now I don't spend much time in 360 areas, but those two games are the only ones that appeal to me, and are the only ones that actually have enough potential to make me care. So let's see here, we have two 360 games (year two) and six PS3 games (year one and two). Now of course my list is a little biased (I don't go to 360 area's), but this is the point of view of a soon-to-be PS3 owner.
Sure, Sony keeps letting us down with every interview they do, but that's okay. I don't care if the system is blah blah blah. All I care about are the games. I'm a gamer, not a fanboy. Too many people have forgotten what it's like to just be a gamer and not a company wh0re.
I'm going to stop now because I'm losing sight of what I was originally trying to point out (I forgot, my bad....), but if you read enough, you'll figure it out.
Wow, this might be the most in-depth post I've ever made, and that's saying alot (did I flame myself? YAY!)

I don't mean to be obnoxious, and hopefully you don't percieve me as such, but I really think you are wrong.
You say you don't go into the 360 sections and/or view the released games our catalog has. How can you not be biased. The thing that gets me pissed off are the avid PS3 fans who can not see past Sony. They are locked in for getting this PS3 without the slightest knowledge of the system in some cases. The games you described are mediocre at best with the exception of the Metal Gear Solid series, the Final Fantasy series, and my personal favorite which you left out which would be the God of War series. These 3 in my own humble opinion seem to be the only 3 hits the PS3 has to look foward to. Maybe in the future they will get more which are unique titles, but for now those aren't even on the horizon yet.
People are saying how much 360 sucks when they have a lot of unique and entertaining activities on the system such as downloading television shows, trailers, demos, and even online material shows such as red vs blue. In addition to that we have the Xbox live stats tracker and reputation system as well as the gamerscore system. Also, we have an online and multiplayer arcade with downloadable games. Playstation's online gaming has been pathetic at best. The only enjoyable games to play online were the Socom series. Xbox Live has been dissed an awful lot, but it is a great system of online gaming. They actually care about the customer and fix things on a regular and daily basis. A lot of people were looking foward to having to pay to play Socom3 in order to boost the online portion of the game and make it that much more enjoyable. They didn't go through with the idea and thusly Socom3 online is crappy.
Xbox was giving PS2 a run for its money towards the time 360 was getting ready to be released. PS2 had been out for much longer with a lot more titles, but Xbox was catching up. In terms of playability and just plain wanting to game, why not purchase an Xbox? You say you aren't a fan of either and just are a gamer. Why not ever look into Xbox 360? I loved my PS2. I still love it. However, the only titles I personally enjoy which are still unique to Sony are Ratchet and Clank, Socom, God of War. I know MGS and FF are very popular as well, but FF is not just for Sony anymore. Squaresoft is making games with 360 now aswell.
Basically the only reason I would ever even thinking of buying a PS3 would be for God of War 2 and a Socom 4 (which is never happening). I could easily play GOW2 at my friends house, so it isn't necessary either. I am a dedicated gamer. I go where my favorite games are. This is why I purchased an Xbox 360, and this is why I plan to purchase the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo has some great ideas such as purchasing older games such as NES, SNES, N64, and GC games through points you earn on their Wii games. I am looking foward to it. PS3 hasn't told me anything fun that they are going to have for their system. Basically it is just a new PS2 with better graphics and a slick, new design. Nothing special, and I'm sure the online is going to stay just as mediocre. I am not anti-sony. I am anti-******** gaming. Xbox360 and Wii are just ontop of their game. They are the next generation. I don't see Sony staying competitive in the gaming industry towards the end of the decade, and I really don't see a Playstation 4 much farther down the road.
I am looking foward to playing Gears of War, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Sonic The Hedgehog, Halo 3, Halo Wars, FEAR, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Banjo and Kazooie, and the exclusive content available for games such as Double Agent, GTA IV, and others which are not available for PS3. Also, games which have already come out such as Perfect Dark Zero, Need for Speed: MW, Saints Row, Oblivion, Hitman: Blood Money, GRAW, and more which were either exclusively available on 360 or had better graphics and more content than the PS2 counterpart. Even if some of the games which were on 360 are made available for PS3 down the road, I got to play them when I wanted to. The people holding out religiously for PS3 have had to sit on the same old games for the last year while I had some serious fun and played great new games on a NG system.
I am not dedicated to 360, they just had the games I wanted to play. PS3 doesn't have enough titles to attract my attention and hard earned money. The online is a joke, and they offer little other entertainment such as an arcade or downloadable content which has been promised on so many occasions. While you sit waiting for good games for the PS3 I will be spending money earned and saved since my aquisition of the 360 and purchase a Wii and proceed to play James Bond 007: Goldeneye (N64) online with friends after downloading it from Wii's online. Also, I will enjoy a nice portion of my Gears of War and Splinter Cell Double Agent.
I go where the fun and games are. Sony just doesn't have what I'm looking for anymore. I know a lot of people who agree.

If I could give you positive rep for this post I would, but I just repped one of your posts earlier today.

And allow me to tell others about my personal experiences with gaming consoles... back in the day (pre-PS2 days), I was one of the more devout (loyal) Sony followers. I lived and breathed Sony gaming. I was devastated when Sony's PS1 "killed" the hope of the Sega Dreamcast... after time, I got over that feeling. I was one of the 250,000 (or whatever the exact number is) that waited in line overnight for a PS2. I was more than happy with the PS2 at that time... fast forward to a couple of "disc read error" mishaps with my PS2, dealing with their (in my opinion) completely worthless customer service, and I was more than ready for a change. I would tell anyone within shouting distance that I would rather be dead than give Bill Gates any of my money for his new baby, the Xbox. Low and behold, I purchased an Xbox when the price dropped to $149... I GAVE IT A CHANCE. And to this day, I feel like I at least expanded my views on Gates' machine. I waited months to get the 360 after it launched... and I couldn't be happier! I just wish others out there would give something half a chance before they decide to condemn it with comments like: "It's garbage."
You know what I mean?

IMO you're being a little hard on PS3 when it isn't even released yet. How can you say that the PS3 online is a joke if no one has even tried it yet? I know that the game selection is a little small on release, I give you that but how many games did the 360 have on release? (Honestly dont know). I mean you could be right about your opinions but I think we should wait till release date or even a few months into it to really judge these 2 systems...
I also want to add that I have tried the Xbox 360 (my brother owns it) & I was very impressed with the system & most of all, the online features. I was considering buying one but since PS3 is so close to release I want to see how their online features are. I they are not what Xbox 360 offers I'll be all over a 360 system.
You must have been editing the same time I was. My B

You double posted your edit because you're silly.
And I have tried an XBOX, not a 360, but an XBOX. Yes, their online setup is way better than Sony's and they do have better customer service (for online at least). Sony has come to realize that as well and is going to try and do the same thing as Microsoft, but make it more appealing by saying that it's free. They won't charge, but are letting the game makers charge if they want.
As I said before, the thing that turns me off about the 360 is that there aren't any games that appelaed to me except for Halo and GOW (Saints Row looked fun, but other people told me otherwise. But maybe they're just haters). And then there were all those complaints that I kept hearing about after launch, but as far as I know, most of them (above half at least) have been fixed.
No matter what happens or anyone says, I'm going to get a PS3. As for me getting a 360, I'll just wait and see what happens. If GOW and Halo 3 turn out as good as people are hoping and if some other good games come out, then I might go grab me that bad boy. But until then, I'm going to sit in front of my TV playing my PS2 eagerly anticipating (I like those words) the release of my PS3.
Does saying "silly" make me come off as fruity? (Is the proper phrase "make me come off" or is it "make me come on"?)
