I truly believed that the PS3 was going to be the best. But it's stupid how expensive it is, so I decided that I will move to the xbox 360. I don't have an xbox, so this is a total conversion. What is important to have, and to buy with my xbox 360? I am very big into online gaming, and played SOCOM on ps2, and am wondering if there is a good team based shooter on 360 comparible to SOCOM. Get the premium pack when you buy one. It's a bit more expensive, but it saves you money in the long run. I (along with a few others here) recommend getting an intercooler as well. You get a free month of gold membership when you start, so you don't need to purchase a LIVE card right away.
For games, I'd suggest either Battefield: Modern Combat, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter or Saints Row.
None of us have yet to see just how awesome a PS3 is going to be compared to the XBOX360. I had always thought that I would only buy a PS3 but didn't have the patience to wait after seeing the Next-Gen graphics on the 360. Some people can't afford both systems ( especially the PS3 ) which I regret because everybody should have a fair shake to get both systems. The performance all around on the PS3 may very well justify it's price. The only online games I was used to on the PS2 was the SOCOM series and the Madden Series. So, the initial switch to the 360 online system at first is Intimidating and Overwhelming ( for Me Anyway ). But you get used to it.
I highly suggest the Intercooler they have one for $ 20.00 bucks that has three fans and they have a Liquid Cooled on for $ 50.00. The Twenty dollar one will work just fine.

It's a good system and Christmas time is coming so undoubtedly some really cool games will be released soon. Get a 360 and save coins for a PS3. The Coin Jug of Destiny can buy some nice stuff
Everyone thinks its all between the 360 and ps3, no one mentions the wii, it saddens me :(
Not so fast, my friend. I've posted over and over around these forums that Nintendo's Wii could very well wind up being a "surprise" hit with gamers...
