Wow... such anger, man.
I agree with you that PS2 is tired and old (especially now), and they were at the top of the gaming world until recently, but you've gotta hand it to them for providing a (somewhat stable) online network for no cost what-so-ever.

I admit, ps2 did give us something new for free. But the servers were still crap. I mean, how hard is it to implement pay and play? Not hard at all.

Oh, I agree with this statement 110%... but Sony figures that it is "too much of a hassle" to ask their consumers to pay for a yearly subscription. They're doing it to stay (slightly) ahead of Xbox Live's userbase. That's all.
And I think if PS3's online is free, it might mean big trouble for them in the long run. Mark my words.

Exactly, a year ago, when I had no money coming my way, I never wouldve paid for xbl. But now that I paid and see the what you get, its fricking amazing. Demos, videos, themes, little online lag. Ps2 will make a mistake in the long run for not payinjg.

The only reason sony has not done pay for play is because they would actually have to get off their butts and do some work with the servers. They are too lazy for that so they slap up some crap server for free and call it a day.

I used to be against Sony having a pay-to-play online system (due to the fact that I was still young) but now that I have some money and will get a job eventually, they should do pay-to-play. If XBL is half as good as what I've read from here, then I'd warm-heartedly pay a few bucks a month for little to no lag. YAY SONY!

Xbox Live (you pay) = it works
PS2 Online (free) = consistently performs poorly
However if what you offer sucks, then it doesnt really matter how well it works. For instance, in my opinion, xbox live seems to always be centered around forcing their customers to only be able to play with friends. Meaning.... that they are rarely given the option to "choose" what and how they want to play the game. Games like GRAW and PGR (the only ones Ive played for 360) have online interfaces that are annoying to go through. At least with Socom's set-up you are given an extremely easy interface to deal with. You get one large page with all the rooms listed in front of you. You look, and you choose.. Its real easy. Ive found that Xbox Live has too much flash, too much clutter, too much usless bs that gets in the way of me playing the specific game that I want to play. Im impatient and only want to do what I want to do and I sure as hell dont want the ****ing computer to choose my game for me. It just seems like xbox has always been oriented towards 3 year old retards that lack the ability to choose. Xbox Live does run flawlessly once your in the game, its just getting there that sucks.

Nah dude, the PS3 seems to be getting alot more support for its online, plus its free. Sony's next system also seems to be more ideal for popular online genres like fps. For example there are alot of fps games slated for ps3 already and its not even out yet. PS2 has been out for a while and it struggles to hold the interest of the fps crowd. Live is awesome( I own 360) but I also think PS3 online service will be great, so I'll get a ps3 just for that.
