That free version is the 360's Silver membership. You basically get access to the marketplace and arcade things. That's it. You're not allowed to play any XBOX Live enabled games. It's pointless, just get the the Gold membership.

Yea, silver is utterly pointless. It doesnt allow you to play "real" games online. Sorry to bash Xbox again, but I just dont like Live. They just give you less options to deal with. Socom's online setup is straight forward and simple. You have a listing of servers to join, once you join you have another listing of games to choose from, you browse, and pick the one that is best suits you best. Its simple, its just an organized listing of the present games available. Whats so hard about conforming to this idea? No waiting, no autosearch bs, just you and your choices. Maybe you dont want to join your buddies games, why should you be forced to?
The only reason I bought a 360 was because I was tired of waiting on Sony. I waited long enough on the arrival Gran Turismo 4. Ive never had an Xbox, and didnt plan on getting one, but I was too curious to see what second gen looked like. Honestly, I probably shouldve waited. As many times as we've been screwed by Sony (and yes, Sony shits on their customers like crazy), it still would have been worthwhile to wait for the PS3. I just think there is a serious lack of titles out for the 360. A system is only as good as the games it provides. Oblivion (for myself) just isnt enough to cut it.

Please define a "real" game for me... I wanna hear what you think.

Hands down... I still think XBL's service is WAYYYYYYYYY better than Sony's wannabe b.s. lag ridden service. And in my opinion, it took Sony/Zipper two times/three (or more) years to get the online "formula" right for the SOCOM series. Your opinion will more than likely change in a week or two...

You have a 360 now? What's your gamertag? Mine's in my new sig. Hit me up with a friend list invite when you have the chance. Veins and c0mmand3r play on XBL from time to time, as well...

Try downloading the demo for Geometry Wars... it's like Asteroids/Defender - on crack!
But the list of choice 360 games grows every week, my friend. I just put a deposit down for Rockstar's "Table Tennis" game (May)... then the list grows to: X-Men 3 (May), Hitman: Blood Money (June), The Godfather (June), Dead Rising (June), Saint's Row (August)... which are all supposed to be choice games that will really support their console.

Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience!

Hehehee, you and and your damn arcade games. Actually, I hear they are rediculously fun.

No I totally agree. When my roomate had Halo 2, there was NO lag. Live has MUCH better Quality service, much more than Socom ever had. Lag just wasnt an issue with Live, and still isnt. I guess what I was trying to say delt more with the interface rather than performance. There's no doubt Xbox Live smokes anything Playstation has to offer as far as performance and quality is concerned. What annoyes me is the way Xbox Live presents their online gaming. I guess they just assume that having one large screen filled with all available games is just boring. Its not Xboxy enough for them. Everything has to be difficult for us 22 year old "old timers".

Yea, mines "DYNAA" However, I dont have any online capable games. Yea, pretty sad. I had graw, but I traded it and PGR in for Oblivion. I think I might pick up battlefiled though.

The games will only get better I know. Look at GT3 vs GT4. Both on the same system yet worlds apart. I just wish there was more out NOW! I suck at waiting.

Since I'm buying my 360 next week, I have one more question about LIVE. What characters can be used when you create your gamer tag? Can I make my Socom name which is -_.B.A.M.F._- or is it only letters and numbers?

I think it's just letters and numbers... but I might be wrong.
(I'd check on this for you right now, but I'm stuck at work until 6pm CST...)
Send me an invite when you get yours... my gamertag is in my sig. In case you can't read it, it's: N3gative Cr33p
I'll be sending you a friend invite when I get it. That's for sure. If it's only letters and numbers, it will have BAMF in it somehow. So just keep an eye open for it.

Sounds like a plan... I'll be on the lookout for it.
P.S. - Already sent you an invite, Dynaa...
