Exactly... the detection is better, and on the whole, the game just generally seems to run smoother in every aspect of it. Just being able to go outside of the demo boundaries makes this game worth playing.

This happened to me once in an 8 hour period. I'm not sure if it was the [se]Xbox, or the game, but a simple restart made it all better.

I'm pretty god damned happy with this game. As said, the controls are slightly better than they were in the demo, and it seems as if there's a handful more moves as well.

The game is great fun with all of the different challenges and the sponsorship features in career mode. The graphics and soundtrack are top notch as well. I think the custom skater engine is good enough, even though my wife is really pissed that they excluded custom female characters, leaving her to play as some dude.

The city is also something to see in itself. It never feels cookie-cutter, or like the background shots in an old Flintstone's cartoon. The city is huge and sprawling, and makes you extremely grateful for the subway system. I will say it'd be nice if you could get a cab in the game because sometimes those subways are a hike away.

There's a few flaws with the game though. Some make it incredibly frustrating at times.

Some of the challenges are extremely difficult to do, because they never demonstrate what you have to do. For instance there's this one with Paul Rodriguez in front of a building with two flights of stairs. I have no idea what to do there.

Another issue I have is when like 5 computer player skaters just show up to a spot you're skating at, and get all in the way. You keep running into them, getting knocked down and what-not. These situations bring the lack of a melee attack to the forefront. It's even more enjoyable when it's during a challenge.

The last thing that I really hate is always being stuck on the board. Getting off of it and walking/running/jumping would have been fantastic. Not for the sake of tricks, but just to make getting through some areas much less prone to obscenities and controller spiking.

I spent just a few minutes on multiplayer. It seemed to do the trick, though other players are a little jumpy onscreen.

All in all, I give skate. an 8 out of 10.

I'm sure you already know this, but you can just use the map to "warp" yourself to specific spots throughout the city.

I was just going to mention this after playing the game for several hours yesterday afternoon... I agree with what you've said here. It would be much easier to know what to do if they showed you what was required for completing certain tasks.

Another good point you've mentioned... but I have more of a problem with the pedestrian traffic that walks around the city.

Definitely one aspect of skate. that I wish was more like the TH games of old... when they (Activision/Neversoft) first gave you the ability to walk around, it made travel much easier in the TH world. EA should do themselves a favor and consider adding this to any future game of this series.

And I agree with Omega's review... this game gets an 8 out of 10 from me, as well.

I didn't at the time of that post, though I did figure it out later in the evening.

For anyone that doesn't know, when looking at your map, zoom in to an area, move the cursor over a location's icon, and hit A.

So, they finally decided to release this game up north, must be our frigid weather, either that or they couldn't find the EB Igloo. It is great!

Major downside is no walking and cars pretty much don't try to avoid you.

8.5 out of 10 for me.

The game sounds very cool and creative but just isn't something I'm interested in spending 60 bucks on right now. I haven't played anything since like Wednesday or Thursday last week anyway, been real busy and partying hard. I think I can hold my own until something better comes along.

Now, now... just because they like playing Halo is no reason to call that gay-talk...

But I digress...

I can't believe I haven't mentioned this, but I like the added touch of the broken bone chart that's in skate.... so far, my personal high on the amount of broken bones on a botched stunt is five - and they all were broken ribs. Ouch.

I've even fractured my skull in this game... classic.
