This happened to me once in an 8 hour period. I'm not sure if it was the [se]Xbox, or the game, but a simple restart made it all better.
I'm pretty god damned happy with this game. As said, the controls are slightly better than they were in the demo, and it seems as if there's a handful more moves as well.
The game is great fun with all of the different challenges and the sponsorship features in career mode. The graphics and soundtrack are top notch as well. I think the custom skater engine is good enough, even though my wife is really pissed that they excluded custom female characters, leaving her to play as some dude.
The city is also something to see in itself. It never feels cookie-cutter, or like the background shots in an old Flintstone's cartoon. The city is huge and sprawling, and makes you extremely grateful for the subway system. I will say it'd be nice if you could get a cab in the game because sometimes those subways are a hike away.
There's a few flaws with the game though. Some make it incredibly frustrating at times.
Some of the challenges are extremely difficult to do, because they never demonstrate what you have to do. For instance there's this one with Paul Rodriguez in front of a building with two flights of stairs. I have no idea what to do there.
Another issue I have is when like 5 computer player skaters just show up to a spot you're skating at, and get all in the way. You keep running into them, getting knocked down and what-not. These situations bring the lack of a melee attack to the forefront. It's even more enjoyable when it's during a challenge.
The last thing that I really hate is always being stuck on the board. Getting off of it and walking/running/jumping would have been fantastic. Not for the sake of tricks, but just to make getting through some areas much less prone to obscenities and controller spiking.
I spent just a few minutes on multiplayer. It seemed to do the trick, though other players are a little jumpy onscreen.
All in all, I give skate. an 8 out of 10.
