Okay, just so you know, this is gonna be pretty long and there won't be any cliff notes. But I would really appreciate it if you'd read this and helped me out.
I'm just gonna get right to the problem, so here goes. I've had Oblivion since it launched and played it for over 200 hours with my one character. Aside from the framerate dropping and some occasional freezing (after hardcore sessions), it ran flawlessly, but then one day something happened to my character. He couldn't sit down.
Whenever I would try to make him sit down, he would just stand there for 20-30 seconds, then I'd regain control over him. Since you need to sit to finish the Thieves Guild, and since it was one of the last things I had to do, I just decided to quit. I was mad but got over it.
Fast forward to now and the expansion pack being released. I decided to download and get back into Oblivion (kinda bored and heard SI was good), so two days ago I got it from the PS Store.
Since my main character was still screwed up, I went ahead and made a new character, and started playing away.
As soon as the Emperor entered my cell, I was noticing glitches. Lines were being stretched off of the characters and wouldn't disappear until we went into a new area or if I saved and reloaded. I figured it was no big deal and pushed forward and started noticing the environment doing the same things as well (lines stretched out), so I started getting annoyed, but figured to keep pushing on.
Eventually as I played, I started getting a red dot to blur on my screen on the top right, I got big black/pink boxes to appear on my screen (covering an object) that would stay for a certain area (big zone), my screen would go completely black until I changed my angle of view (look up or down), and it started freezing alot during combat.
Just in case that was confusing, here's a list of the problems.
1) Lines strecth out from the environment and characters mishaping them. I can walk through them (the lines), but they won't leave until I reload.
2) Red dot appears on my screen for a split second, then disappears.
3) Black/pink boxes will appear on my screen blocking objects. It happens in a certain zone and after I leave they disappear, but the zones are large.
4) My whole screen will turn black until I change the angle of my view (happens in the zones for #3).
5) Freezes alot during combat.
Now after thsi started happening, I did multiple things to find the problem.
I deleted both my characters and tried a new character. The problems still occured.
I deleted my old character and tried my new character. The problems still occured.
I deleted my new character and tried my old character. The problems still occured.
I deleted every file (game saves, game settings, EVERYTHING) associated with Oblivion and re-downloaded SI and started a new character. The problems still occured.
I cleaned my disc thoroughly. The problems still occured.
I got a new disc (brand new). The problems still occured.
I tried all the previous attempts with the new disc. The problems still occured.
As you can tell, I've tried practically everything, and I'm completely out of ideas. All my other games still work, so I highly doubt it's my PS3's fault.
So what I'm hoping one of you can tell me is:
1) What exactly my problem is.
2) How I can fix it.
3) Or tell me who and how to contact someone that can help me.
