The following is a general guideline for fixing any router/mic problems you may have with SOCOM 1 and 2. Although the information is mainly geared towards SOCOM you may still find this information useful for other games as they would simply require different port settings. You can find a few other games port settings at the end of the document. If you come across a router that is not listed please send the info you have and what you did to make it work, like firmware version, port settings, what mic you had and so on.
There are several routers on the market and the following is only a short list of available options. The information obtained for this FAQ is what users have reported on boards. If a router is listed as not working that does not mean it will not work for you. Manufactures will generally upgrade the firmware for their devices as demands for them change and people require new features. A good example of this is the d-link 604. So before you go out and buy a new router please make sure you update your firmware to latest release. I have tried to include updated information as to what firmware release is currently available but you should contact your manufacture for more detailed information.
First I would like to point out that not all mics will work. One way to find if your mic will work is to hook your PS2 directly to your cable/dsl modem directly and see if it works online. If your mic will work with a direct connection and not with router then read below for possible problems and solutions. If you have a problem connecting the PS2 NA directly to the modem you might want to check the ISP listing to see if they require you to regiister.
If you are directly connecting cable/dsl modem to your PS2 make sure you power cycle the modem. Most ISP will record the mac address of the connected device and you will need to power cycle the modem to get it to accept your new mac address of the PS2 NA. You will need to do this if you had your modem previously connected to your computer alone, or had it connected to your router but decided to make direct connection to PS2 for testing mic.
It is also worth noting that not all ISP will work with the NA directly connected and a router is required for connection. That being said I will also try to include a list of ISP and what if anything will be required to use them properly. The information obtained about ISP is again what users have reported and may change as your ISP may change what services they offer to better service you.
If you had a router hooked up before and are adding the PS2 to the router for the first time and have DHCP enabled make sure you have enough DHCP user slots enabled.
