You don't think Socom is real enough? I mean besides lag. A lot of what you say applies to Socom.. IF people worked together. Unfortunately, people find out they can do better just running and gunning and doing their own thing. I think if stats didn't exist, people would be more likely to work together towards the goal, rather than to be the superstar who gets all the kills, plants the bombs, etc.
You can use real life strategies like covering fire, flanking, pincer moves, etc in Socom.
I also gather that tactics and strategy will make a bigger difference when theres 16 people playing on each side. Imagine 16 people all rushing the same way? Wow.

Sure, SOCOM CAN be a lot more realistic but you will VERY RARELY find a room of such tactics. As you said, everyone is out to be the superstar. SOCOM will never be real and will never use real life tactics to play. Hell, people run full speed shooting perfectly accurate, that ruined it already.

SOTG is alot like that...We use as many tactics as possible. No point in running to your death when you can lure them to thiers. The whole thing about most online games is...You gotta play with tacticall people...There are too many people out there that dont give a rats ***.

MY brother and I (on a crappy forum called gamefaqs.com ;) ) used to make types of games like these from Socom 1 and 2, in good maps for it. In Socom 1 we often used Death Trap, and such maps where there are objectives besides "KILL T3H NUBS". We would give ranks for the reason that people could tell others what to do... You don't want a cluster of people telling everyone else to do something because they don't want to do the dirtywork... The terrorists would have a leader, 2 bodyguard-type people, and 5 guards patrolling different areas. The SEALs basically just had the 2 SEAL teams... But a leader of each, and each member had a different gun. IE: Sniper, M4, M60, HK. Maybe when I get my PS2 again, yeah I sold it for an XBOX, I'll start some more up. I'm getting a PS2 soon! lol

Re: Oh man would I love realism.
clearly you havent played CS:S. much like socom, but waayyyy more realistic. and often people do use special tactics because 20 ppl per team makes running and gunning alot more difficult. sure there are people that can pull it off, and sure there are 20-person rushes to the same place. but most often tactics are used in a wide variety of ways

Whoever said that having you leg blown off, you have a bad idea. Could you imagine getting hit and just sitting there being helpless. That would suck the rest of the fun out of the game. Sitting there, shooting while not being able to move. A sniper on the roof in front of you, and you just waiting to be seen in their scope. You team manages to kill them, but there is a grenade launcher shooting random grenades. One lands next to you and blows the sand in your eyes, you can't see anything and you afraid to fire. You might kill a teammate.
This is really dramatic, BUT do you all see my point. Having body parts blown off would not be a good idea.

You might consider trying America's Army for the PC. It's not Ultra realistic but it is based on the training sim that they use for the US Army (or so I've heard) Plust it's a free download so even if you don't like it you wasted nothing but some time.
Personally I perfer Socom, it's got a nice blend of realism and gameplay.
