Here's what I wrote on the M14 for my Bible: (btw I'm welcoming other stuff you guys write, like the Weapon Tactics thread - or just simply PM me).
M14
THE most used weapon on either the Terrorist or SEAL side, the M14 is the weapon of choice for "rushers," "jumpers," and even those who watch Rambo a little too often.
The M14 does not allow a burst fire mode, but full automatic is enough for the purpose of run&gun which it was made for. The preferred weapon of Terrorists because "the STG77 sucks," and, "the M16A2 doesn't deliver," the M14 is the best weapon to use when you have no other idea of what to use.
The loudness of the M14 makes your presence known very quickly. To some players who have played the game for a long time, the sound of the M14 or the M3 12 GAUGE right by them can make even the best players hesitate for a moment. To equalize the extreme loudness of this rifle, the power is extremely deadly. About 2 or 3 HITS (not shots) is all it would take in order for an enemy to go down (at almost anywhere in the body). In an attempt to compensate for the deadliness/takedown of the weapon, the M14 also kicks high very fast. In real life however, the weapon can fly above your head in less than 3 shots if you try to go into full automatic.
In full automatic mode, the M14 is very deadly, and very hard to control for the new people to the game. To compensate for the massive kick, it is best to slam your controller stick to look down as you fire because keeping it still will cause your crosshair to make a leap into the air if you go past 2 shots.
However, the real beauty of this weapon is unsung in SOCOM2. The Semi-Automatic mode for this weapon brings extremely deadly rounds in a short burst of loudness. The M14 is made in some games in order to "bridge the gap of Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle." When standing still, the M14's accuracy is "on the dot."
The best use of the M14, would be in a medium-ranged firefight (mostly seen in Enowapi). In this situation, both the automatic and the semi-automatic modes would work for the advantage of the player. For a newer player though, it is recommended not to try and use the M14 for close combat due to the short magazine size (20/mag).
Also, always carry a Double Ammo (2x Ammo) with you when using the M14. The short magazine size and the very fast rate of fire catches up to the Full-Auto people very fast. If you're not careful, you'll have your D.E. out before you know it.
Tips for this weapon go without saying. Playing the game itself will show you more than you can learn by reading this Bible.
