The golden lancer is worth the extra $10 easily and the hard cover book looks really cool to ill probably go pre-order this weekend.

I have never understood the appeal of Gears of War. The campaign was short and repetitive. The multiplayer was mundane, involving too few people and long respawn times. Who knows, maybe Gears 2 will actually turn out pretty good, but they're gonna have to show me that they are really improving on the lackluster Gears 1 before I get excited.

I felt the same as you about Gears1 for the longest time. Then about a year after release I had no new games to play, so I played it through on Insane and gained a whole new respect for it. It completely changes the way the game plays because it's no longer just run and gun nonsense; you can't just run into a room and blow everything up. You have to hide a lot more, pick your shots better, and rely much more heavily on good reload timing and teamwork.

Give it a try and see what you think.

GoW was a game ahead of it's time on a seemingly new console. Everything about it was right out of the oven like fresh bread. I agree somewhat on your MP player view but they did keep a mundane MP updated often with quality DLC. Despite the SP being short coupled with the MP it was a full plate. The Co-Op also made up for it . I played through the SP Campaign 4 times. I've never done that with another game. Lackluster ? I don't think so.

I would have to agree with you on this one. But Ram did suck on Insane level.

If it changes the dynamic of the game as much as you say it does, I'll definitely have to once my 360 is repaired.

Yeah Raam is disgusting on Insane. That kind of spoiled it for me because I had to youtube a solution. But the rest of the game goes from being pretty good to freaking awesome when you crank up the difficulty, IMO.

Disgusting? I think a phrase like "cheap as all hell" is a better description for General Raam on the insane difficulty of Gears.

I really look forward to GoW2, but I can never say that Raam was the biggest issue in that game, although I do enjoy the endless laughter that I shared with Creep when we tagged Raam in about 30 seconds with a dozen or so torque bows. The cheapest/hardest part of that game was the open courtyard on the 4th level, I believe, where you must navigate a courtyard with therion guards (sp?) and then you meet up with one of the huge beasts while fighting off numerous other beasts. Great game all in all, but after beating the game on all three levels, I was happy to bid it farewell.

I'm probably going to rent this, I didn't really much care for the first one. I just don't really care anything about battling aliens, to me it just isn't that realistic. I'm probably one of the few 360 owners that doesn't like Halo or GOW.
