Tuesday, July 1st I'm heading to Albany, New York with the local Marine recruiters and I'm enlisting in the United States Marines. So I'm enlisting the 1st, and their shipping me out on August 11th. I'm so stoked!

Best of luck.

My brother was a jarhead and got his honorable discharge a little over 10 years ago. Joined at 18, did his 4 years and was done. Never got shipped overseas, but he did get a USMC armband tattoo.

My parents said he left for basic as a bag of bones and when he got back he was pretty buff.

Why Uncle Sam's Misguilded Children? Really, The few and the under funded? Wow. Lol I'm just messing with you.

Good job man, you made a good choice, but you should have joined the Army.

Good luck!! I'm going to miss our hockey conversations, but you'll be doing your (our) country a great service. My friend is currently in the Marines and he should be done in a year or so, unless he decides to re-enlist. He's been through four or five tours in Iraq while being stationed down in North Carolina.

What are you going in as? Infantry?

Honestly I've been thinking lately and I'm really considering going. I have no where else to turn and I'm not going back to school Plus It'd be a real accomplishment to retire a marine.. one of my friends is a marine or was.. they teach you some pretty sick stuff

I'll be at Parris Island on August 11th for bootcamp for 2 months. I'm so stoked and I can't wait. I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet, Tuesday when I go to enlist I'm taking the ASVAB test again, then I'm sure I'll pick a job depending on where I score the highest.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's that intense anymore. Plus, all I have to do is be better than 1 person in my Battalion and I won't get as much **** as him :).

Thought about it. Then I said to myself, "If I'm going to be joining the military, why not join the best?" Not putting down the Army in any way.

Do it man. I dropped outta college twice, school just isn't my thing, never has been and never will be. The Marines is a great and honorable title to carry around for the rest of your life.

By the way, I'll be:
3rd Battalion
Kilo Company

You sure the Marines are the best choice? I have little time for Marines versus Army debates, because the pros and cons balance themselves out for me... until the time aboard ship and embassy duty appears. Its not a bad life in interesting places like sierra leone or the balkans, but if you end up somewhere really nasty like canada you will be kicking yourself. An awful lot.
