I was just reading this thread the other day and now I have 1 broken black piggy and 1 sprained pink piggy. I was pressure cleaning around my property yeasterday and I tripped over a plant stand and racked my foot on it when I fell. Afterwards my father came walking over and asked " What Happened ? ". I told him that I tripped and broke my ****ing toes. He says " You mean the one that's sticking straight up ? "
I cracked that ***** back in place, popped a pill or three and now I'm ready to go back out in the yard today.

My Step Dad used to work at a scrap metal company and a steal girder fell on his big toe once when he went out in loading bay. The following week, we were having a BBQ and he dropped a frozen sausage on it (re-braking it because it wasn't healed) and the same day he dropped the BBQ's gas tank on it. I would have never thought a sausage falling on a man's toe could bring him to tears.

When I sprained my wrist about 6 months ago, it hurt like hell. I am pretty sure it was fractured because it was twisted quite a bit and cracked when I put it back in the right "direction". It still gives me a lot of pain if I pick something heavy up and have to twist my wrist at the same time. Even using it to open the twist cap of a bottle gives me pain.

There's not really much they can do for a broken toe since it's fairly small, but anything to relieve some pain is welcoming.

You don't really sprain your toe. You break it. There is nothing you can really do. I recently broke my big toe during a drunken stuper which I regret. I smashed it on the top step leading out of a pool. I didn't notice at the time, but I couldnt walk on it properly for the next week or two. It still feels stiff..but toes are difficult. You can put a butterfly brace on a finger, but toes just need time really. If it is really bad you might consider getting an X-ray, but basically just RICE it.

Turf Toe is when you sprain the ligaments connecting your toe to the foot. This is caused when you push down very very hard on your toes causing hyperextention, when you have a lot of pressure on your calf or back leg causing force on the toe, or rarely stubbing your toe from stopping suddenly as if you're running. Spraining you're toe is actually very easy to do especially in football and baseball with the sudden stops.

It is technically called a Metatarsalphalangeal joint sprain.

In this guy's case though it was definitely a break due to the swelling he described. I'm sure he's fine now though.

Man it's nice to take classes in Sports Medicine.
