Tonsillectomy
For the past few days I've been feeling like dog ****, probably the worst I've ever felt. Fever, headaches, sore throat, stuffy nose, mild nausea, all the bullcrap. Well, most of it has went away, except for the sore throat. This **** is so bad, I can barely swallow(no nasty jokes please, this is serious business), I sound NOTHING like my normal self and have a hard time saying T's E's K's C's, ect.., and I want to stab my throat out with a butterknife. Anywho, I had most of the symptoms of tonsillitis.

Tomorrow I'm going to the doctor, and since this **** is so bad they're probably gonna say something like; "YEP! It's tonsillitis! We're gonna have to chop them bad boys out right the **** now."

And, if I hear that, I will probably duke my britches. Never had surgery before, never thought it'd ever happen to me, and if it does it will suck.

So people here who have had a tonsillectomy, what's it like? Pain? Can you eat? Bleeding? I hear that you can have all the ice cream you want?

HALP!

Edit-

I read on the webs that tea helps. Thing is, I ****ing hate tea. So I balled up and drank a cup, and it helped! - for about a half hour. After it was over, it told my voice to **** off and kicked it in the nuts, now I'm totally shot.

You don't have to have your tonsils out just for one case of tonsilitus.

My brother used to literally have it once a month and they never took his out.

They used to give you ice cream here but now I think they give you soggy toast or some crap like that. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Any responsible doctor won't cut them out for one case of tonsilitis. If they say that you should get them removed, try to avoid it. You need your tonsils, and removing them weakens your immune system. Now if it becomes a recurring problem, or if they're so swollen that they touch (which is rare), they would probably cut them.

Most likely they'll give you two weeks worth of antibiotics. Take some Advil now, do the entire duration of the antibiotics, and keep drinking tea, eating honey, and gargling with warm salt water. It shouldn't hurt anymore after a couple of days of antibiotics.

I remember once waking up and my tonsils were so swollen I was choking on them. (Cue joke)

I just ran to the bathroom, drank some cold water, and I stopped choking almost instantly. I never even got tonsillitis from it, no idea what caused it.

For some reason I have always had a lump in the back of my throat. Never really thought of what it could be, but it stops me breathing out of my nose properly.

I can't take advil, but I've been taking Percocets out the ***.

What will the salt water do?

I'm heading to the doc in a little bit, so I'll see what they tell me. I hope I don't gotta go through this **** ><

Percs? Jesus. A little over the top there. We've all had sore throats, but unless you've literally been stabbed in the throat why do you need percs.

Salt water will help. Don't ask me how, but it's one of the most common ways to help calm a sore throat, along with eating honey. Look it up if you want.

Meh, not really. It's a way to make it go away for a few hours.

I had Tonsillitis back at the beginning of March..

The doctor only gave me some antibiotics..only 5 or so pills of them too. It was a z-pack. The antibiotics didn't even start working until I was pretty much done taking all the pills(about a week)..

He also said to take Motrin/Ibuprofen to relieve the pain, but that did absolutely NOTHING to take the pain away. I couldn't eat or drink for over a week until finally the antibiotics starting kicking in.
