The White Stripes - "Icky Thump"
So after Jack took a break from The White Stripes to be a part of The Racenoteurs (I did not like their album), he has returned back to the Stripes to record thier 6th album.
Quote:
The White Stripes official web site announced on February 28, 2007 that Icky Thump will be the name of the sixth studio album.[14] The band's website announced that the album was recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studio and took almost three weeks to record — the longest of any White Stripes album to date.
A statement on the band's official website (spuriously attributed to "Kitayna Ireyna Tatanya Kerenska Alisof" of the "Moscow Bugle", a reference to Batman: The Movie, 1966.[15]) claims that:
"The White Stripes have completed the recording and mixing of their sixth album. It is entitled Icky Thump, and is their first album to include a title track, which curiously (and not ironically) has the same words in it's [sic] name. Though some residents of northern England might almost recognize the title, the Stripes stress they are spelling it wrong intentionally just for "kicks" and "metaphors", and to avoid a possible lawsuit from the estate of Billy Eckstine."
Three tracks were previewed to NME, "Icky Thump", "What Love Is" and "Conquest." NME described the tracks as "an experimental, heavy sounding 70s riff", "a strong, melodic love song" and "an unexpected mix of big guitars and a bold horn section", respectively.[16] NME also confirmed the appearance of bagpipes in a video of the band recording the songs but stated that none of the songs previewed featured the instrument.
The song "I'm Slowly Turning Into You" was featured in a video on the band's official website. The video depicts Jack White in the studio recording the vocals for the song while a skeletal figure dances in the background.

I personally really like the White Stripes, their music is simple yet awesome at the same time. They truly live up to the statment that less is more. I hope to be seeing them at Bonaroo and then to get my hands on this new album.

The Raconteur album was excellent. The only Gripe I had with the album was it being only about 26 Minutes long. I've always wanted to hear WHite in a band with a Bass Player. The album was so short it was like a tease.
The last Stripes album was mediocre at best. Not as good as they're past albums. I'm a big believer in artist's having multiple bands and constant rotating musicians. I'm not saying rotating musicians because of fighting, I mean friendly collaborations.

I think the other way in certain asspects. When a member of a band has too many side projects it really can affect the band. Take Pantera for instance, the main reason they broke up was Phil Anselmo's side projects and his neglect of Pantera. Who knows if he had stuck with Pantera if Dimbag would still be alive. For the most part, sideprojects are alright just aslong as it doesn't damage the other band.
I also have to disagree with rotating band members in and out. For the most part I believe that if a group of people make a band called somthing or other and then someone leaves, then its not the same band. Obviously most bands have gone through changes in lineups and sometimes it works out, but I truly believe the orginal lineup is usually the best.
As for The Raconteurs, I didn't like that album in the least bit. I guess it just wasn't what I we expecting and it let me down. But thats just my opinion.

The side project that proved to be Pantera's demise was Phil wanting to hang-out with his Syringe, more than the band. There's was a more deep-rooted hatred for Phil beacuse of that.
Jason Newsted former bassist for Metallica wanted to start a side band and Hetfield couldn't buy a super-absorbant enough Tampon to handle it. I think it's good to let bands breathe, do different things. Find inspiration elsewhere and bring back what they've learned.

Get Behind Me Satan was an awful 'Stripes album, and I'm guessing it's because they toured so much and churned out albums like crazy. Hopefully the break has done Jack good, and they put out some great stuff.
The mentioning of horns has me skeptical. It's not exactly a page out of their playbook. Perhaps an homage to Chicago? I'd be down with that.
De Stijl and White Blood Cells are their best, hands down.

Comes out 6/19/07
I think they're going to be on my tour list. If this album does as poor as Get Behind Me Satan, then it could be the end of the Stripes.
That would be upsetting. I had tickets for the Elephant tour, but the date got cancelled because of Meg's broken arm if I remember correctly.
Comcast on Demand has a nice 30-40 minute concert of theirs on right now. It's free, it's great, and Meg's boobies are super bouncy throughout the show.

Also a New Pornographers album in August, if you're cool enough to know who they are.
It's like my concert wishlist for the year is being fulfilled.
