Well since I last posted in this thread I have gotten into some different metal bands and I thought I would post up some recommendations.
  • Dream Theater - Progressive Metal (Essential Album - Images and Words)

  • Symphony X - Progressive Metal (Essential Album - The Divine Wings of Tragedy)

  • Mastodon - Groove Metal (Essential Album - Blood Mountain)
Dream Theater and Symphony X both have a similar sound. Both bands have some of the greatest instrumentalists in heavy metal. Vocals in those bands are very clean though (no screaming, growling or anything like that). So if you like all the instrumentals of metal, but dislike the guttural vocals of alot of metal band check those out. I just started get into Mastodon not to long ago, and to be honest I was somewhat shocked that I took a liking to them. Im not usually a very big fan of non clean vocals, but for some reason this band worked well.

Hey...Im new to these forums, and this thread was in fact the only reason I signed up. Its already helped me to find some new bands that I really liked, but I still need more new bands!

Here's a list of my favorite bands[/b]

36 Crazyfists
All that Remains
A Skylit Drive
Atreyu (before they sucked)
As I lay Dying
Avenged Sevenfold (before they sucked)
Bullet for my Valentine
Bless the Fall
Chevelle
Dark Tranquillity
Disturbed
Evergrey
From Autumn to Ashes (before they sucked)
Haste the Day
It Dies Today
In Flames
Parkway Drive
Soilwork
Still Remains
Trivium (before they sucked)

lol, im sure there are some others I forgot to mention, but based on this list of these bands I'd like some help in finding new bands similar to these. I'm open to anything. Thanks for your help!

Hi, welcome to the forums.

We have similar tastes, so I'll point out my favorite albums/songs from the bands you listed as well as some other bands I like.

36 Crazyfists- I don't listen to them much, but they have a few good songs. My favorite song is Elysium (with Howard Jones).

All That Remains- Definitely a good choice. I like all albums/songs by them, especially This Calling, The Deepest Gray, and This Darkened Heart.

As I lay Dying- One of my favorite bands. I love every song by them and when I say every, I mean just that. However, this is only including Frail Words Collapse and Shadows Are Security, not A Long March, which sucks.

Bullet for my Valentine- I listen to a few of their songs, only from The Poison.

Haste the Day- Great band, not sure on the new singer, though. I only have When Everything Falls and Closest Thing To Closure off of Bridges Burning, though.

It Dies Today- Close to the top for me, at least before Sirens came out. I only listen to their EP CD (Forever Scorned) and The Caitiff Choir. I reccommend the EP CD. You can get it off iTunes if you have trouble finding it. It's a lot heavier than Choir, but it's their best work. Sirens sucks. They did get a new singer, though but I haven't heard him.

In Flames- Great band, I especially love Take This Life, Superhero Of The Computer Rage, and Dial 595-Escape.

Parkway Drive- One of my favorite bands, I can't wait for a new CD. Romance Is Dead is my favorite song by them.

Still Remains- I love the first four or five songs off of their CD, but not much else.

Trivium- I don't really listen to them anymore.

From your list, it seems you like more melody in the metal. However, Parkway Drive is far from that, so I'll list a variety.

My first suggestion (and one of my favorite bands) is Killswitch Engage. I 110% guarantee you will like them, based off of your list. Not much else to say, besides the fact that I know you will love them. I would reccomend all of their CDs, but their newest one, As Daylight Dies, is my personal favorite. The first CD they made was with a different singer and drummer, but is still pretty good.

Another suggestion I have is heavier than any of the bands you listed, but I suggest you give it a try. They do not signing, but try them out anyway. The Black Dahlia Murder. Either CD will work, but I reccommend A Vulgar Picture to listen to. This song will give you most of what BDM has to offer. They only have one singer, but you may not realize it the first time listening to them. He switches off with a "higher" and lower" voice, which is amazing.

A Dozen Furies. They have broken up, but they are kick ***. They are a bit heavier but they sing, too. Check out the CD A Concept From Fire. It's their only one, I believe.

Another band that you will probably like is Bleeding Through. I really only listen to songs off their newest album, The Truth. Check out the song For Love and Failing. The opening line is great and it is the first song on the CD.

Caliban is another band you may like. They are from Germany but sing in English and do not have accents, like Parkway Drive who is from Austrailia. I like a few of their songs, from the album The Opposite From Within.

The Devil Wears Prada. A bit heavier, but they do have singing. You may like them.

Demon Hunter is more metal, but they do have singing. I like songs from both of their albums.

I Killed The Prom Queen is an Austrailian band, similar to Parkway Drive, but not as good in my opinion. Listen to Say Goodbye, it's my favorite song by them.

Scar Symmetry. Their "metal side" is really heavy, but their signing in melodic. Listen to the song The Illusionist, you'll probably like it.

Shadows Fall. I like some of their songs, you may like them.

Another very heavy band with no singing (like The Black Dahlia Murder) is As Blood Runs Black. If you're looking for flatout crazy music, listen to them. Another band like this that I love is At Daggers Drawn. They have broken up, but you can still find their music on myspace.

Lynyrd Skynyrd. I know they aren't metal, but they are too badass to not mention. I listen to classic rock, too, so if you want some of that, let me know.

I have a lot of heavier bands as well, so let me know if you're into that and I'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you like any of these bands, I strongly feel that you will like KSE.

No problem, glad I could help. Let me know if you want any other bands.

Seeing Skynyrd twice is by no means sad. I wish I could have seen them, but unfortunately, I can't say I was around when they were. Maybe I could still see them today, I wonder if they are going to tour soon.

They still tour, but its never going to be the same after Ronnie and the others died.

Yeah, I know, but it's better than not seeing them I suppose. Damn shame.

Nice thread, too bad we don't have the likes of Otter here to give us insight, haha. I'm suprised to just find 36 Crazyfists not mentioned until a few days ago.

Ive been listening to this band from spain alot lately.

purevolume™ | Avenues and Silhouettes

EDIT: Their myspace has an updated Sisi Vs. Isis song recorded in a recording studio instead of their home studio.
