Stone Sour is metal, listen to Get Inside.
I can't believe no one said The Black Dahlia Murder. If you're looking for one of the heaviest bands out there, definitely check them out. They only have one singer, who is absolutely amazing.
Another band is Catherine. They are a local band out of Cali but are making it big. You can also fond them on iTunes now.

So is calling Poison metal. I have nothing against them, I like them, but I do not consider Poison metal.
It's all about the times and how far music has gone. Back when Poison was big, no such bands like The Black Dahlia Murder existed. It's hard to imagine what metal 30 years from now would sound like. I can't think it can get much heavier, but I'm sure people thought that 30 years ago.

Nirvana is grunge, not metal. And yes AC/DC is definatley metal. They were the bridge between bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. They did alot in developing metal into respected genre.
