Well, I for one am a big fan of Mel Gibson. I've loved all the movies he has directed and I think this little incident is far from finishing his career. It's just the booze talking and I know from people who have been in similar situations that the cops really don't do a good job dealing with people under the influence. It's a tricky situation when you're dealing with a drunk and sober people seem to forget how incoherent they are and keep treating them like a normal sober person. I don't know where I'm going with this though, just an observation.
I agree with Libertine though about the fact that if it were some stranger, no one would take this drunk man's comments to heart. But since it's good ol' Mel, the director of a controversial (and personally I think very underrated) movie about Jesus Christ, it is a big deal. All in all, his personal beliefs are his right to be had and him vocalizing them, whether sober or not is also his right. The anti-semitic remarks are certainly out of line but that too is not against the law. Shame that the whole incident happened though.
The movie he has coming out,
Apocalypto, looks pretty sweet. Maybe this is a publicity stunt!

If Robert Downey Jr. can get his career back, so can Mel.

Obviously he was in the wrong but this will be a small little blurb in the history of a great director/writer/producer/actor.
