A Scanner Darkly

The preview for this movie intrigues me. So much that I, a person who despises the act of sitting down and reading, am actually considering to read the book that the movie is based on (A Scanner Darkly, by Philip K. D!ck*). There are a few good names involved with the movie as well and the way the movie is made (real life cartoon filter-ish) is interesting too.

Has anyone happened to have read the book?

See the trailer here:

*hah... our filters wont allow me to type the author's last name correctly.

But seriously, this looks great. First vector movie I've seen and it looks AMAZING! Some shots from the trailer looked like photos...soo much better than anime or anything like that. I'm def going to see it.

I saw the trailer for it a long long time ago and have been wondering when it was going to come out. I started to think that it already came out and I forgot about it or it got scrapped. It wasn't until recently when I looked it up that I saw it's coming out this year so I might go see it in the theatre. I read the synopsis on it and it was different than what I thought it would be but it still looks like it'll be interesting.

He who? There seems to be a few good ones in this movie.

I just started the book. I'll tell you what I thought about it in roughly a year. It's not a long book, I just get sleepy after about a page of text. So far it's pretty good though.

I laughed at ODIN-027's post, its funny how a trailer can draw you into the theatre without even knowing the plot first. Ahhh the power of marketing. :-P

*** Double Post and Bump whammy! ***

I went to go see this movie tonight at the local indie theatre. It was sweet. After watching (parts of) Waking Life, I was iffy as to whether I'd like the cartoon effect* that this movie had. Waking Life completely blows (from what I saw of it, never really gave it a chance...), but this movie was great.

It has an awesome story with a good ending. Some may find it too slow, but it has enough humor if you think a bunch of hopped up druggie guys interacting with eachother is funny. It also has a bit of a sci-fi-ness about it. Now, I have a matching set of chromosomes, so that automatically puts a damper on that whole genre... but this movie was intriguing and thought provoking all the way through it as it portrays just how the war on drugs may evolve in some respects in the years to come.

If you get a chance to see it, you ought to give it a shot... or wait for DVD... whatever you fancy.

*As for the "cartoon effect", I was interested in what exactly it was so I looked it up. Apparently it's a process called rotoscoping, in which artists trace over live-action scenes frame by frame, then add subtle alterations.

I'll probably wait for it to come out on DVD but what I find strange is how different the previews are now. Before the previews were sort of dark/serious but now it makes it look like it's more of a comedy.

From just seeing the previews, I think I'll more than likely see it sometime soon.

That is, AFTER I see "Dead Man's Chest"...
