Call of Duty: World at War Revealed
Published June 17, 2008
The next Call of Duty® is being revealed! You can watch the premiere of the worldwide reveal trailer for Call of Duty: World at War only on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace June 21. Call of Duty: World at War completely changes the rules of engagement by redefining WWII gaming and thrusting players into the final tension-filled, unforgiving battles against a new ferocious enemy in the most dangerous and suspenseful action ever seen.
Powered by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare™ technology, Call of Duty: World at War brings an uncensored edge to combat, as soldiers face the most harrowing and climactic European and Pacific battles in which an enemy, who knows no surrender and no retreat, will fight to the last breath, unleashing an arsenal of lethal surprising tactics. Peril and danger lurk throughout the battlefield as players combat the unknown risk of the new chaos of battle.
From the remains of Russia and the ruins of Berlin, to the beach and jungles of the deadly Pacific Theater, the volatile action takes on added depth as players employ new features that previously were only available in multiplayer, including perks, rankings and online stats in up to four-player cooperative gameplay, and take advantage of the new infantry and vehicle-based weapons, like the potent flamethrower, that will set the battlefield ablaze.
I'm so pissed there going back to WWII, I'm so sick of it. Also, I heard the makers of COD3 are making this game. If that is the case I will definitely not be getting it. IMO, COD3 is the worst game in the series.
Tbh I'm not surprised. Greatness never lasts. COD4 was so good, and now they've gone back to WWII. Great. They won't be having any of my money for this one.
It's pacific theatre, so it should be something fresh at least. And more russians, which is great. I loved the russian campaigns in the previous cod's.
And 4-player co-op? That's pretty damn sweet. I would definitely pick this up for console. Flamethrowers are awesome too, and if they include vehicles alongside regular fighting in single-player campaigns, it could be great.
Yea, I saw an article about the game a few days ago on Kotaku. It looks pretty good but I'm not too sure about the WWII theme again.
I did like COD3 I must admit, but I had never played any of the other games in the series so it was en entirely new experience for me much like COD4 was for everyone.
On Kotaku, they were reffering to an early cutscene in the game saying someone has their eyes gouged out or something like that. Maybe they did something to them with acid, not sure. But apparently, it's going to be really graphic compared to the previous ones. Blood and gore will be a nice adition to the series, especially now it's moving into the pacific side of the war.
The WWII theme doesn't exactly give me a fire in the loins. I'd rather have a reboot of Modern Combat. I want to kill angry Muslim extremists, Nazis are boring. I'm not going to rule out a purchase , but at this point I just shrug my shoulders. Give me a war shooter where I can kick someone's head down the street like a soccer ball.
With all of that in mind. I'm still pished that they've gone back to WWII, whether its the Russians, Polish, British whatever. It's WWII. There will be no surprises. We know all the vehicles, all the weapons and all the outcomes of the big battles. And their not going to try to alter history. So what can we expect to surprise us? Maybe we don't need to be supprised, maybe it'll just be a great game. But I feel like they've just fallen back in to generic "Shooter". COD4 wasn't exactly groundbreaking. But even if World at war is brilliant, it'll still be a "Brilliant" WWII game. MOH have done it COD has done it already.
I really think this game will be either a huge success or the death of the series. Like you said Blargian, it may be a good game, but it will really need to bring a hell of a lot to the table just because it's still only a WWII game.
Maybe if they added a naval or air-force side to the story it may help, but I hardly think they will do that and it probably wont fit with the theme of COD games. They need to give us a "tankers" perspective on the game. We always play as a noob or the guy who almost spends more time on the ground than anything else. Let us play as someone with half an ounce of gumption! And for god's sake, don't make us play as the other side!
In all honesty, who really thinks about WWII anymore? I know it changed the world forever and a lot of people died etc, but it's the current war everyone is focusing on, not one that happened decades ago. Games are supposed to capitalise on present day situations and make them appealing in a gaming way, not take us back in history to make us relive something that not many people care so much about anymore.

I would disagree. There's plenty of people who are WWII buffs, including myself, and the first two Call of Duty's were godsends.
I think it's pretty obvious that they're banking the entire success of this game on the gameplay, not the storyline. I'm confident that they are planning on bringing something revolutionary and advanced to the table, because otherwise they wouldn't have gone back to WW2 (they know how overplayed it is as much as we do).
And as far as a "tankers" perspective, if you ever played the expansion to the original COD, it had a hell of a tank mission. Not to mention the availability of tanks online.
P.S. - I swear to Jesus, it better not be the same old crap. If it is, I demand Treyarch be razed.
P.P.S. - It would actually be pretty interesting to play as the other side. Sort of a Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima kind of thing. Except without the crap.
If they really want to be ground-breaking, then make a WWI or Civil War FPS game. How many of those have you seen?
Anyways, the only thing that I'm looking forward to (so far) is the fact that it's based in the Pacific theater of WWII. At least that's new. At this point, this would be a game I would rent before buying.

I was hoping for Call of Duty 5: Future Warfare ;-;
Also, people trained with Muzzle Loaded Guns can reload it in about 5 seconds, which would have been the speed of reload time during Civil War battles (at least according to the History Channel).
But the guns would fire lasers instead of bullets. And for some reason, the ground would eat people. There would also be talking mushrooms. At the end of the game, your system will bake you Mr.Awesome-Pants brownies that are so good, just one bite makes your mind explode because it can't comprehend their yumminess. Yeah...

Sort of takes away from spraying and praying don't ya think. My neighbor has muzzle loader and those things are a little tricker then you would think.
