Is anyone else excited for this game? I've been looking forward to it since it was announced. For the uneducated, Prototype is an open world action game where you play as a genetically enhanced man who is in the middle of a war attempting to find out what happened to him. Basically, he wakes up and has no memory. He soon finds out that he has superhuman powers and can mutate his body grotesquely. He can also steal people's appearances and thoughts by "absorbing" them. This is how the story plays out. Each time you absorb someone that knows something about what happened to you you will get a piece of the "story web". Sometimes, you will need other pieces for the web piece you just unlocked to make sense. The developers have also said that you will be able to share these pieces with an online buddy, and that this will be almost crucial to figuring out the entire story.
You can watch a trailer for it here (Warning: It contains a bit of blood and such so if that kind of thing bothers you I wouldn't click).
Wow. That looks like it would be incredibly fun to play. It's an interesting concept though to have no linear story. That almost makes it seem like a big sandbox game with no point unless you happen to fall upon a specific person by chance. What if you accidentally kill someone pivotal to the story? I'm not sure how it will play out but it looks like good times nonetheless.

I just beat Prototype and I'm prepared to award the 'Which is better' trophy to inFamous, because pretty much all the way through, both are great. Each has some minor niggles, but nothing game-breaking, really. That is, until you get to the final boss of Prototype, when you start to realise just how game-breaking these niggles are when you experience them all at once, you're on a clock, and there's a great hulking beast wanting to rip your face off.
Possible spoilers, but nothing that's not incredibly obvious.
Imagine a 25 foot tall screaming behemoth is chucking bits of a battleship at you and generally wanting to turn you into a rather nasty looking stain on the deck. Imagine also, that a handful of regular sized humans are milling around with puny machine guns at the same time. You press the auto target button, which is meant to intelligently target the greatest threat to your general well being. Would you rather it pick a) giant screaming behemoth, or b) little man with gun? Needless to say, more often than I would have liked, the little men were my target, not the giant creature stood feet away that was doing its best to rend me limb from limb.
Further imagine that scattered across this battleship are various tools that you could use to dispose of the imminent threat to your existence, such as oh, I don't know, missiles and bombs sat on a trolley. Pretty helpful. Now, imagine you want to pick something up to throw at this giant monstrosity. Would you rather pick up a) the bomb, b) the trolley, or c) an imaginary human that doesn't exist? Once again, more often than I wanted to, I got c), and b). FFS. So many times I was stood trying to pick up a missile, with the beast leaping towards me, only for the twat to stand there and make a grab for a human target in front of him that didn't exist.
Finally, and fortunately least frustrating of all is that the level isn't all that well designed. You can fall off the edge of the battleship. Which isn't so bad in and of itself, but imagine a battleship. The deck hangs over the rest of the boat to form a kind of ledge. When our hero falls in the water, he immediately jumps out at great velocity. Which is nice. But not when you're stuck under the FUCKING ledge and against a FUCKING clock and you keep banging your FUCKING head on the overhang, falling back in the water and repeating this ridiculous process until the clock runs out.
I have played through this game too and although there were some minor things that i think could have been changed, overall i thought it was a really good game. Making the whole entire State of New York completely open to roam in with no loading screens was extremely fun. After a while i caught myself just trying to find the biggest skyscraper to dive off of, but the missions were good and were helped along with the 50+ side missions. I would say that if you haven't played this game yet, at least go out and rent it!!
I too was very excited when the game was announced. It looked like GTA with a science fiction edge. I was very impressed how the game makers were so tenacious about making the city really feel like NYC. My impression when I read a review on a video game site is that it feel a little short on what people thought it would be. I hate videogame deadlines. Taking short cuts to get games out on time. I'd rather wait 6 months and have a game to as great as it can get than have it out on time and have it feel like it wasn't finished.
