well my guess is they are going to hit us with more games and expansions using the IV engines, but at the same time deving somthing new up for about 2-4 years to debut on the next gen of systems. Seems like a good bet
I really dont expect to see a gta IV for at least 4 years since knowing rockstar, they are going to want V to technically top IV in like, every single way. If EA takes over take two, then we can forget about this whole theory and rockstars ideaology. We'd have GTAIX by Q4 2009.

That's crazy. I'd think GTA V would come out like end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. GTA IV came out faster than I thought and I'd think the makers would suspect gamers to want a fifth one already.

I wouldn't hold your breath. GTA2 came out pretty soon after the first one, but if you ask me it was more like GTA 1.5. Anyway, GTAIII came out ages after that, and GTAIV was even longer in the making. Of course, III was an enormous improvement over 2, and IV was at least as much of an improvement over III, so the dev cycle is understandably long. You're quite likely to see Vice City and San Andreas type expansions within the next few years I'd guess, but I wouldn't expect GTAV proper until the next console generation.

Possibly on a future Xbox console build, but there will more than likely be a GTAV on the PS3, if you ask me... considering I've heard Sony state that they will be fully behind their new baby for several years to come. I mean, they've just started to quicken the developing on it... you really think Rockstar will want to wait for a PS4, just to release GTAV? I think they'd be stupid to try such a move.

Every time I hear about Sony's 10 year plan for the PS3 I just think 'yeah right'. I can sort of semi-see it in the way I can see how the PS2 is still supported, in the half arsed way that it is. But is anyone seriously still buying new games for it? I think the PS3 stands a chance of still being around in 10 years (or 8 now), maybe, but I certainly think it will be on the backburner behind PS4. As soon as Microsoft announce a new Xbox, Sony will be right behind them, IMO.
As for Rockstar waiting for a new Playstation to release GTAV, I don't think it will happen quite like that, I just think that they have id's attitude to releasing games, ie "when it's ready". If GTAV is ready before PS3 or 360 dies, then fine, but if Rockstar aren't ready to release GTAV until a new generation, that's fine with me, I'd rather it be good than rushed because they wanted it on PS3. Also, it only really needs one new console to be released, not two - if there is a new uber XBox by then, it will undoubtedly be more powerful than the PS3, and if GTAV is released on Super XBox, can you see Rockstar scaling it back for the now old-hat PS3? Did they scale back GTAIV for Wii? Hell no.
Ok, so I am one of those computer gamers. So I really dont play game systems to much anymore, but GTA IV required my attention. I am just in love with it. Mostly online free roam.
There's going to be another gaming with developers weekend with the Rockstar guys over XBL, beginning September 26th. Supposedly, they will be giving away prizes from what I heard... count me in on that action.
