When it comes to PC gamers and their games, it gets kind of personal - especially when it comes to their favorite. There's kind of this iconic, god-like status that PC gamers give their favorite game, along the lines of "if you talk crap about it I'm going to throw a flaming cat at your face." PC gamers usually throw thousands of dollars into their PC's, and on their personal creation, they have one game they revere above all others.
For me, this game is Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, The Conquerors Expansion. Not only does this game have thousands of memories with me, it will also be my runaway RTS from all of the squad-based, no resource RTS's coming out nowadays. In all there are thirteen civilizations, giving you a wealth of choice and variety in every game you play. Each has its own advantages such as more starting villagers, or more efficient wood cutting - with each civ. housing a different unique unit. There is no "best" civilization, as the tech. tree is virtually the same, as certain areas of the tech. tree cannot be accessed by certain civilizations, whereas those blocked portions could be accessible by a different civilization.
Ah... the good ol' days.
Kai! ^_^ So, getting to the point, what PC game do you revere as #1? And more importantly, why?
I played the hell out of AOE2. I cheated like a mofo though. I'd get all my monies way up, build a massive fortress with patrolling squads, and just leave it on for days without touching it. It'd get to the point where the computer would just stop trying to attack me.
I think I always went with the Nords. They could build those towers that had like 6 cannons in them. I'd build like 80 cannon towers around my fortress, and then put the big catapults in front of them for longer range.
Command And Conquer: Red Alert 2. That was the first RTS game I played and it was probably the best of the series as well. I put in so many hours into the game playing against the computer and against friends as well through the internet and LAN set-ups. Out of the many PC games I've played, Red Alert 2 was definitely the most enjoyable.
- SWAT 4
- AOE2
- The Sims (w/Expansions)
- RCT3 (W/Soaked)
- Company of Heroes (w/Expansion)
I prefer to play RTS and simulator games on PCs and all other games on consoles. I've spent god knows how long playing RCT3 and the Sims games, I was playing the Sims all last week and RCT3 is running in the background now.
I never played the expansion, but CoH is a fantastic game indeed.
To be honest, the expansion is more trouble than it's worth. I had to download 6 patches (large patches) to be able to play the expansion, that took me forever since my connection was been crap. But you can create an online account which means you don't need the disk to play, but I share my games with my step dad and 1 disk = 1 account so he took the account, I took the disk.
The expansion includes the Brits, a new German team, more skirmish maps, and an extra story mode. If you install the expansion, you can't continue the original story mode though I don't think.
Baldur's Gate, without question. I loved that game and played it for ages. It was the first game of its kind that I played and I absolutely loved it. So rare an occurrence is it that I play a game on a regular basis for more than about a month, barring any sort of multiplayer shennanigans, but that was one of them. The only others that really spring to mind are Oblivion and Tekken 3.
Awesome game, and I think it's aged well. I played through BG2 last year and it's just as enjoyable as the original was. Top stuff, and I recommend everyone try it. I give it 10/10, and I genuinely think it deserves it.

I can barely remember BG, I played it when it was first released so I was too young to really understand it.
Anyone play Dungeon Master (any of them)? I used to go to my uncles and play LAN games with him and my auntie. Sure I still have it somewhere.
