I've seen a few people discussing which gun is the best in multi-player, but there's not really a way to tabulate votes and figure out what everyone thinks, especially across all the different forums. I made a site that lets people see all the guns in the game, and then vote from 1 to 21 which guns are the best. If lots of people vote on the guns, we can figure out what people consider the best gun and the worst gun.

BTW - I'll take an RPD with Grip, Stopping Power, and Deep Impact against any other gun.
I seriously started racking up kills when I started using the M4, but the M16 is the best all round. It is almost guaranteed to kill at close range, and isn't half bad at a distance either. The MP5 is also very good at close range but is a bit poor at medium to long.
The worst gun in the game (without including pistols/snipers) has to be the Uzi for me. I am sure there will be people who disagree, but it's close to impossible to get a kill with this gun unless you are right on top of the person you are shooting at. Even the shotguns and Skorpion are better than this piece of crap.
My setup at the minute is MP5 (w/Suppressor), M1911 (w/Suppressor), Frag/Flash, C4, UAV Jammer, and Dead Silence. (may have got the dead silence name wrong).
I sometimes switch the suppressor for the red dot on the MP5 along with bandolier depending on the situation.
There's really no answer to this, it's rather a question of personal preference and playing style.
IW did an outstanding job of balancing the weapons on this game. With proper aim and tactics, there's no gun that can't be beat.
With that said, I primarily use the M16 or MP5. If I'm going for stealth, I used a silenced P90 because the extra bullets come in handy with the weakening from the silencer.
The Skorpion silenced is absolutely AMAZING! It has so much power and surprisingly awesome range with absolutely NO recoil which makes easy for range and headshots. I destroy with this gun and use it all of the time now.
The AK47 and the AK74SU have been working so well for me lately. I really have no clue why but now, whenever I use the M16 I play like I just realized my friend's face looks like Rose O'Donnel's ***.

Ive been sniped from bridge to bridge on overgrown with teh scorpian... it was a low point in my life....
I like the m16 right now with stopping power... its easy kills...
By far the most fun gun in the game is the pump shotgun though.
M16A4 with red dot sight. I like to use it with steady aim, bandolier, and stopping power. The P90 is god for CQC. The M82A1 is my favorite sniper rifle used with stopping power, iron lung, and bandolier. I usually don't die often and find myself running out of ammo. Steady aim is good for CQC where you don't have time to use the sights.
I used the Skorpion a hell of a lot when I first got the game, but I stopped using it because it was too easy.
I prefer a challenge and would rather get a crap K:D ratio than get easy kills. I think the only skill you need to use the Skorpion is knowing how to not run through ammo like nothing.
The G3 is the best silenced gun. It has decent iron sights and doesn't chew through the ammo like fully automatic guns do, allowing 3x Frags to be carried rathe than Bandolier.
But the best all round gun is the AK 47 as it is quite powerful, decent at range, fully automatic and is good with scopes and the silencer.
