Map Contest

I was playing COD4 (PS3) today and noticed they finally updated the IW Message of the day.

They have announced a map making contest whereby you download the tools for it on your computer, create a map, and enter it in the contest.

One thing I don't understand is they are telling us this on the PS3, but their website still says it is only available to people with the PC version.

The closing date is also not so far away (31st March) so it doesn't give us much time to mess around with the map tool before actually creating a half decent map.

I will probably just download this in hopes they will one day just let us upload/download maps as and when we choose like they do for the PC users.

This message has been up on the 360 for a while now. I would kind of like to make an attempt to make a map but I know nothing good will come out of it, I tried to make one a long time ago for the first COD I think. I think I would have some good ideas, but putting them onto the computer myself would be a complete disaster.

I know my friend will be doing this, he's really good at this kind of stuff. He made a custom map for either the original COD or COD2, can't remember, but it was really good, we used to 1v1 on it all the time.

Hopefully some people out there will have some good ideas and make some pretty good maps. I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of playing the same maps over and over again, with a few exceptions.

Yea I haven't played the game since last week so this message probably isn't new. I haven't seen anyone discuss it here so I thought I would post it.

I am currently downloading the tool now, I think I remember downloading it before and then seeing it was for PC users only so I deleted it before even using it. I probably wont have a clue what I am doing when I get on it.

Sometimes I wish I had bought the PC version. They get more stuff and usually a lot quicker than console players do.

Well we're all pretty much ****ed. You have to have Call of Duty 4 for the PC in order to download the map maker. At that rate, I don't even know why they're advertising this on the consoles.

I'd love to make a map though. It'd be sick.

just in case anyone here actually tries the whole map making thing i'll give you a great idea to get you started.

gladiator football.

game type would be sabotage. game rules would be knives only, no airstrikes or uav's, and no perks.

map layout would be a war torn football field. no buildings, no cover, and no obstacles. maybe throw in a few bomb craters, or not, your choice. just like football both teams start at the center with the bomb/football in between both teams. the object would obviously be to get the bomb and then make it to the opposite end of the field and plant for the touchdown.

you might want to make 2 different sizes of the field, one for normal style sabotage and then a larger one for groundwar sabotage.

now THAT would be sick.

I wanted to do this so I could make Devil's Road :)
But I don't have this for the pc.
I really wanted to try this out too.

I can't believe there hasn't been any complaints on the IW forums about this. On the consoles they tell you to download the map tool on a computer, design a map, and enter it into the contest. I know there isn't much room on there, but no where in that message gives so much as a hint that you need the PC version of the game.

They either like to create a huge divide between PC and console gamers, or there has been a serious lack of communication between the web guys and those who update the message of the day on the console servers.

OME6A you should post a nice little message on there like you did on another forum (I forget which one) a couple of months ago.

(Yes I do realise that every complaint made on the IW forums mean absolutely nothing to the people who run the show.)
