COD4 Review in OXM Provides New Info
As initially reported by Nun-Puncher...
The newest issue of Official Xbox Magazine has an early review of Call of Duty 4, in which they score the title perfect 10s on singleplayer and multiplayer.
They especially tout the multiplayer as having a ranking system and experience that gives Halo 3 some serious competition.
The review also discloses some new information about the upcoming release: - 16 multiplayer maps right out of the box
- Plays at 60 frames per second
- Single player takes about 10 hours, but tons of replay value with cheats and arcade mode.
- Playable mission after the ending credits
- Arcade mode is unlocked by beating the single player. You can then replay single player missions in arcade mode which awards points for doing things like headshots, grenade kills, destroying vehicles, etc.
- Additional sniper rifle: Barrett 50 Cal
- Additional perk: Overkill (enables you to create a class with a weapon other than a pistol as your secondary, so you could carry an M4 and an HK5 right out the gate. This is not dual-wielding like Halo.)
- Collecting 30 different hidden laptops throughout the single player unlocks various cheats for single player use; Unlimited Ammo, Grayscale Mode, High Contrast Mode, Slow-mo Mode, Ragtime Mode which displays the game in a sped up sepia tone while playing 1920s piano music, and a Bad Year mode where enemies explode in a pile of tires when you kill them.
- Multiplayer caps at level 55, but things are still unlockable past that.
- 13 Different multiplayer modes/playlists that are unlocked as you progress through the ranks. To name a few; deathmatch, search & destroy, domination, one on one duel, hardcore (one shot/one kill), oldschool (higher jumping and weapons via pick-up only), headquarters.
COD4 > Halo 3.

I would rather see this not in the game, but it's not that big of a deal. I just hope that one shot/one kill doesn't become the standard room, which is exactly what happened to Resistance: Fall of Man (Hence the reason why I barely played the online portion of the game)
But, anyway.....Wow, 16 multiplayer maps!! I definitely wasn't expecting that. This game sounds better and better each time I read up on it or I watch another video.

The beta had three maps, but my thread contained three new videos, displaying two maps that had not yet been seen. The game will, as Ome6a said, have 16 maps out of the box.

Yeah I know, that's what killed resistance for me too. But then they came out with a new patch that changed ranked games, and my friend got the game, so I eventually came back for a while in the end.
