Imus and the "nappy headed hoes"

I can't believe there isn't a thread on this (I checked here and Entertainment, if I somehow missed it, I must be worthless).

*Disclaimer* If you are offended in any way by my post, you are not a bright individual. i am not in any way insulting any race/sex/anything. I am simply stating my thoughts and opinions and asking for some clear, concise answers.

Is anyone else completely enraged about this entire scenario? He calls some girls "nappy headed hoes" and that magically becomes a racist comment (gotta love how quickly African Americans play the race card) and he is fired for this? I just don't understand this, if someone can logically explain the following things to me, I'll be extremely grateful....

1) What he said is not necessarily racist. People are too quick to play the race card. The fact that he thinks a group of women have nappy hair has nothing to do with race. Sure, it's a stereotype that black people have nappy hair, but why fuel a stereotype with your own prejudice *cough Jesse Jackson *cough* Al Sharpton*cough* of automatically calling that a racist comment. All that does in my eyes if fuel a stereotype. So basically, they are whining and complaining about something that the judged without any knowledge at all. B-e-a-utiful hypocrisy.

2) Double standards. If a black radio host were to say that would anyone have even noticed? No. I know for sure I wouldn't have thought twice about it if I heard it from a black man/woman (and I have heard it from black comedians).

3) Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson (somewhat a separate issue). When will they not contradict themselves? I honestly do not have any respect for them after the garbage they have pulled. Imus makes a formal apology (not even necessary in my opinion) and yet they are still after his throat. I saw Jesse Jackson state this on the news (not a direct quote): "It's up to his superiors if he keeps his job or not". Sharpton says this: "The issue "was never about Don Imus,"

O rly? Then why were there threats of rallies outside of CBS studios, and pressure upon Imus' advertisers? Yeah, you wanted him fired, man up and admit it. If it wasn't about Imus, then you would have done something about Howard Stern years ago.

4) Freedom of speech. I suppose it doesn't apply so much since he's on the air. But still, he can say what he wants.

This whole thing is just a completely idiotic, blown out of proportion piece of hypocrisy.

Well, he didn't just say "nappy headed hoes", he also cited a movie(or tv show) that had to do with the race factor, where a black team vs a white team played each other and it was dubbed "The wanna-be's(in this case, Tennesse - the white girls) against the jiggaboos(in this case, Rutgers - the black team)". He also threw that into the bit.

Honestly, I don't care. I can see it from both point of views (whites and black). But I didn't really find it racist, nor do I feel that it's really that big of an issue. He said it was a joke, he apologized, it should have ended there. But no, Al and Jesse had to stick their nose in it(just like everything else), and make it something it shouldn't be.

It's not like he said "Man, Rutgers team is full of nappy headed ******S". If it was that, which it wasn't, THEN and only then would I see the issue.

Apprently, Freedom of speech is brought up to anyone anymore. I think it's retarded how he makes a statement "Nappy headed Hoes" And it's Sexist and racist. If you look at Rap/Hip-Hop, They disrespect their women and own race everyday by saying "Hoe" or "*****". It's absolutely retarded because when they say it, it's okay because they're famous and when a white, or other certain races/cultures say it, It becomes offensive and becomes a big issue. Like you said Bob, "gotta love how quickly African Americans play the race card", I agree with that. There are white kids at my school who say "*****" With an "A" at the end. They're not racist, but they say it because they hear African Americans say it and we're are joking(I am when I say it). How come Black people can call us crackers and get away with it and they can be serious but when we say the "N" word and we're joking, and black people make a big fuss over it?

Ugh. I really hate it when people beat a dead horse with it's own leg. - Cheesy

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way shape or form a racist. I look down on racist people, In my eyes, racists are ignorant, intolerant pricks who need to get over life or just die. This is just my opinion.

If I basically repeated what you said Bob, Forgive me.

I just want to know who the "person of color" was that actually listened to Imus in the first place and heard the nappyness.

Playing the Freedom of Speech card is no better than playing the racism card and having the guy fired over it. The proper thing to do is play the Get Bent, You Pathetic Worm card. Racism is a horrible thing, but people that make large issues out of unimportant comments need some perspective.

In addition, not being able to make fun of another race as you can make fun of your own is a barrier between us and actual equality.

I agree Bob, there's definitely a double-standard. As you said, had a black entertainer made a similar comment, it would have gone unnoticed. What's even more tiresome about this whole ordeal is that white people are constantly the target of punchlines in black comedy, yet that's all cool & the gang...

I really could care less, but seeing how this has been blown up into a national ordeal, then people had better do some careful thinking before they go forming opinions.

As far as freedom of speech goes, everyone's got that and is entitled to it. What everyone is also entitled to is facing the consequences of their actions.

In Imus' case, he's got a nationally broadcast radio show, with big sponsors and apparently (to my bewilderment) millions of listeners. Of course he's going to lose his job over it.

Your local morning talk radio guys may be able to get away with it, but not when you've got such high visability as Imus.

What I think is rediculous is how "hurt & upset" these girls are about the comments. What a bunch of whiney b*tches. Seriously, you just won some basketball championship or something, wtf do you care what some old codger says about you on the radio?

I file this under Big Fckin Deal.

This country needs a good kick in the a.ss so bad, it's not even funny.

The whole thing doesn't matter- that Imus guy will be back in a few months bigger than ever. People drop out of showbusiness all the time when they fade away but when they simply explode like this guy other networks snap them up.

The whole thing is silly- it wasn't an innocent joke but it was still a joke, and one that should not be acknowledged. A few weeks ago a commentator that favoured Eindhoven did a stupidly long gag about his feet being sore from all the walking to the Liverpool stadium (Scousers are famed for dismantling cars and stealing the bits in record time so this guy parked a few miles outside the city) and nobody payed any attention, it just fell flat on its face and the commentator went quiet for a few minutes before getting back to proper commentary. This Imus guy wasn't a commentater (I think) but with people like that, silence does a whole lot more damage than vocal outrage.

I dunno about all of this... seeing as how all of his former sponsors pulled their spots off his radio/TV show the day before he was actually fired.

Good riddance... Stern is better than Imus, anyway.

Imus will be on XM or sirus in a month or so. Just watch and see. Some one needs to stand up to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton show them how much trouble that actually bring to problems. I believe those two are the most raciest persons out of this whole thing.

This Forum was once a place of Sanctuary for me to escape from The Imus & The Nappy Headed Ho's National Tragedy.

I mean please, look at this Crustacean ( Imus ). The only thing I want to know is, what happened to his Cowboy Hat ?? Why isn't he wearing it anymore ? It's not the first time he's shot his mouth off without thinking.
The guy makes my skin crawl.

AL Sharpton....Here Ya Go Skeleton Closet - Al Sharpton, The Dark Side

Good Job Al
You got his National Apology.
You got his Job
You got his Radio Show
You got his Cowboy Hat
You got Imus to be on your Radio show.
You got Paid
Baby Steps in the right direction would be how AL The Oppurtunist would describe this.

Rutgers Womens B-Ball Team - Should've have been upset, but not as upset as they make it out to be. Arranging a Meeting with Imus in the Governor of New Jersey's Mansion while he get's in a serious car accident on the way to the meating ??? Are you kidding me ??
The whole thing is just nauseating. I'd love to hear what these girls say to each other behind closed doors or in the Locker room.

Please... South Park , Do something with this !!!!!!!!!
