Message alert

I find this would be really good. Everytime you get a New PM, a quick, yet distinguishable(sp?) tone should sound notifing you that you have a message, but only when your online, not when you log on, otherwise you could have a tone go for like 10 times. Whats your thoughts?

Lmao I was thinking about this a few days ago but didn't want to post it because I had to otehr ideas in here. Instead of a tone I was thinking, where it says Unread and Total, its like enlarged or something branches out of it saying you have a new messege. For me it wouldn't matter because I don't get PM's

I believe there is a setting in your User CP that allows you to turn message notification on. Last PM I got I had a popup saying I had a new PM.

Yes there is.

User CP -> Settings & Options -> Edit Options
Scroll down a little ways and there is a section for PMs. The bottom one should be the notification.

OR, you guys could just look at the box in the top right corner of the page when you log on...it doesn't seem that big of a deal to be notified of a pm... Just LOOk

Yea, you have to watch out though when using the new PM pop-up because some (mine at least) pop-up blockers dont let it pop-up so you might still have to keep just looking up top for new ones.

I am sure theres an easy way to get around it though, I am going to do it now, not that I even get any PM's.

A tone isn't necessary for a private message. We have a pop up window that notifies you as well as an email that can be sent to the email address you have associated with your account. If you have a pop-up blocker set it to allow this site. As you can see in the just the visual design of the place, we like to keep it simple here... not turn the forums into some AOL clone. This suggestion gives me shudders just thinking of the infamous "You've got mail!" sound clip.

Just keep an eye on the top right section if you're that nervous about missing your PMs and while I'm we're on the subject, remember to backup/delete old messages to help save server space on the site.

Didnt know about the notification thingy. It seems that everytime I send a pm to someone it takes a few days to get a response even though they are currently online. This was an idea for other people not me, I always check my little box.

Or they read it and don't want to reply back.

There is also and option when sending a PM to include a "Recieved confermation" or something like that so say you send me a PM. I read it and then it will send you a message back telling you I got it.
