The following is the controller layout for the "Frogman" setting
This setting is similar to that of the default controller layout except the L2 button becomes the talk button, the R2 button becomes the command button, and CIRCLE is selector switch and current weapons menu. The advantages of this layout are listed below the button functions.
BUTTON FUNCTIONS FOR IN-GAME PLAY
R1
Fire
Accelerate (in vehicle)
R2
Commands (i.e. 'Cover Me')
L1
Quickset (toggles between quickset options)
Reverse (in vehicle)
L2
Talk (known as the "Run and Talk" feature on SOCOM 2)
D-pad
Left- lean left, changes position in vehicle
Right- lean right, changes position in vehicle
Up- 3rd person to 1st Person POV to Scope
Down- Scope to 1st person to 3rd Person POV
L3 (Left analog)
Move character (moving analog)
Pressing L3-nothing
R3 (right analog)
Aim weapon/look (moving analog)
Press and hold R3- reload
Select
Scoreboard
Start
Menu
X button
Select special icons/actions (i.e. victory dance, pick up primary, get in vehicle etc.)
Square button
Jump
Circle
Selector Switch (Tap it. It changes your fire mode - 3 round burst, full auto, etc.)
Current weapons menu (Must hold button down. It is the menu that allows you to change manually from your primary to secondary during the game)
Triangle
Change position (prone, crouch, stand)
Submerge (hold to submerge when in water)
ADVANTAGES OF FROGMAN SETTING
-Biggest Advantage: Allows you to use "Run and Talk" feature. You do not have to remove your fingers from analog sticks or fire button to press circle to talk. Instead, using your left middle finger, you can press L2 while spraying some lead.
-R1 remains fire button, no Sureshot controls.
TO CHANGE YOUR BUTTON LAYOUT TO FROGMAN, OR TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN, GO TO YOUR OPTIONS ON THE TOP OF THE ONLINE SCREEN AND CHANGE YOUR CONTROLLER SETTINGS.
I know many of you are worried that if you try a new controller setting it will negatively affect your game, but trust me, this setting is almost IDENTICAL to the default controller setting, but its even easier to use!

Nice tip, i can see how it helps to be able to aim and talk to you team when your ina firefight so you can transmit your location just incase you die, without stopping to talk. I will have to try this.

ive seen a spike in frogman/commando settings recently. ive tried it (along with commando) a few months ago, just couldnt get used to it after basically years in precision shooter. anytime i go into a new location i announce my position anyway. with the keyboard/crosstalk/playing with friends, the point of learning a new function is almost pointless.

Well its only pointless if you are a negative nancy like you are. Obviously you are not going to like it if you've been playing sure shot, because that would change the fire button as well. Frogman takes the DEFAULT controller setting, and switches the talk button to L2. So really, this setting is for people who are used to the default setting, because you can get used to using L2 as talk as opposed to circle, whereas in your situation, you have to change your whole setup. If you are playing default, then you are forced to talk either your thumb off the right analog or your index finger off the fire button just to talk. What is the sense in doing that when you can have an almost identical controller setting that allows you to fire/move while you are talking?

Yeah a lot of people are used to doing that, I just hate having to take my finger off the trigger button or any button to talk.

I use it always know that i got the hang of it. At first it was really hard having the fire modes and stuff on circle, but it actually helps because you only need to tap it to change from single to auto, which suits me well. The only problem is that you absolutlely have to use the L1 quick select or else it takes ages to find your nades, u need to hold it for a while.

JSTAB, I'm new 2 Socom 3 and i've found it aggrevating w\ the regular controller setup. I'll try the frogman and i think it will be better in helping me get more kills keeping me on the move instaed of trying 2 stop & talk to find locations and 2 tell my location. Do u have any other pointers that would be helpful. If so let me know. My S3 name is Bandicot w\ [SPC] maybe we could play with or against each other sometime. PEACE

I would say definately use the Frogman setting if you are frustrated with default because of its talk features. Frogman keeps your attention on the game, rather than talking itself. When I'm playing, I don't even think about it when I'm talking, I just press the L2 button and frag on.
As far as other pointers, I would reccommend that you refer to the sticky threads in this section, the ones that give pointers on how to play particular roles, explain the weapons/attachments, etc. Refer to the thread entitled "June Release!!!!!111" for some brand new intel.
My SOCOM3/SOCOM2/SOCOM1 name is JSTAB, when I'm on I'll look for you.
