Well there are some real changes you must get used to. For instance, if you liked being a wild hero in S2 and killing the other team yourself, you're gunna have to get used to relying on teamwork more (unless it's smallmaps, 8v8 )
Also, there are vehicles as I'm sure you know, and countering them offers new challenges. (IE: You can take an RPG to blow up trucks, but then you're gunna be real heavy and will need a less powerful primary weapon to balance)
And definately get used to being panic-stricken at all times while walking through big areas. Now that the maps are so big, combined with the add-on of ghillie suits (costumes that are made to look like bushes) makes for lots more snipers. (also, now all the kids that suck at sniping think they're great)
Remember running halfway up a mountain in Foxhunt to hurl grenades over the hill? In Socom 3 you'd be dead pretty fast running through an open field like that. You really have to use cover now. Also, now that almost any gun can be silenced, you can never "expect to hear 'em coming", even Terrors. Also keep in mind that that bush with wich you blend oh so well might not work if a hummer decides to roll over it.
Basically Socom 3 requires a lot more thinking. There's the same random nades and spray n prayers, but now positioning and communication is a big part. As for the weapon customization, it rocks. You can make almost anything. If there's a Socom 2 gun that you wish you still had, you can pretty much build it. (silencer + scope + m4a1 = M4a1SD) And always remember, nothing comes with attachements built in. (Except the F90, which has a red dot) So, there are no more guns that end in SD. You gotta put the stuff on yourself, and there are tons of attachements: silencers, scopes, front grips, lasers, red dots, bipods, slug-ammo, 203s etc. (keep in mind 203s are still frowned upon but most people don't mind if they're used for big groups of enemies or against vehicles)
As for the hit detection, it's GREAT compared to Socom 2. 2 or 3 bullets of a 9mm sub and they're going down. (well, unless it gets real laggy)
The number one thing to keep in mind: Don't listen to losers who tell you you suck because you're camping, sniping, using a big machine gun, or anything.....except blasting 203s in every direction in a small map :)
For gun changes that will shock you: -The F90 is now really good, since it kills easily and can be silent.
-The M16 is alot easier to use because it shoots crazy fast, but is less accurate than S2 (it actually has SOME kickback)
-The M14 is more of an acquired taste than before. It's not too great for up close fights, but it can carry the most long ranged scopes possible. (basically a weak sniper that's full auto)
-Pistols are a lot more challenging since none of them are as accurate as they used to be, and the D.E. is now one of the most accurate, but is a 2 shot kill.
-Shotguns can finally come off the rack! Now that you die way easier, the shotguns are actually REALLY GOOD in close quarters, even the pump. (no more M3 though :( )
-Snipers don't come with scopes on them, don't make that mistake.
-Don't forget that you can hitch a ride in vehicles instead of walking a mile.
-Don't hop in a vehicle and feel invincible. This isn't Halo. It's sometimes surprising how easily some random trooper can catch a headshot on you as you're zooming around.
PS: Don't listen to the people who say the game sucks. They can like S2 better, good for them, but it definately doesn't suck.
