That part of the world has certainly been upset with the West recently.
In the case of Dubai, however, I don't think economic sanctions are anything out of the ordinary. Using the threat of moving business elsewhere is a common practice the world over. I don't think the fact that it is the UAE doing the threatening is particularly upsetting.
What IS upsetting is the potential security nightmare (even if it is only imagined) that comes from having an Arab nation controlling port activity in the United States.
I guess it comes down to two choices;
1- Decreased security at home
2- Decreased security abroad
Pick the one that costs less in dollars and go with it. They're both crappy choices.
