Downloadable Map Pack and Flash Drive Discussion Thread

I archived the old thread to make it make it less tiresome to search the post for useful information. Please continue this discussion in this thread. Any other topics that relate to this one posted in as new thread will be deleted. Thank you and have a nice day.

From here on out, If I see another person whinning and crying over $6 for a maps. I'm going to delete there posts.

Reasons:
1. $6 dollars isn't a whole lot of money. Look at Xbox, they charge for all there content. At least we can play for free.
2. If you don't want to spend the money. "Don't" You can play the rest of the maps with doing so.
3. This is a "option" that sony is doing for it's customers. I feel like this is heading in the correct direction.

To sum it up for people who don't want to read, this says that it has ben confirmed that new maps will be available starting in March of 2006. They will be downloadable in the form of packs (implying more than one at a time) and will include updated Socom 2 maps, and brand news maps entirely. The first pack will contain Last Bastion, After Hours, and Liberation, which were only available for the hdd in Socom 2.

Now, for those saying "how will we store it". The maps can be stored on an hdd, flash drive, or a PSP memory stick duo (not sure what that means). So basically, if you don't have those, you'll have to buy one to play the new maps, in addition, map packs will cost a price of $5.99 each.

That's a basic summary, now we can all go nuts.

heres a link to 4 or 5 vids on ign of after hours. not as informative as the first vid but still gives a good idea of the level.

And i couldn't find a vid or anything for liberation, but to give an idea its sorta like a crossroad styled map in the middle east city. the city is sorta a port citywith some docks off the side of the main road. but the seals spawn in a road where they can go straight down the road to an extraction, but theres usally alot of snipers along the road, or the seals can go through a series of alleys and a big market place in the middle of the alleys to get to and extraction in the back.

hope this is helpful to people who havent played the maps.
and if i find anything for libertaion ill post it.

Good. Thank you for making a fresh one. Haha, the last one had over 23 pages, that's amazingly too much for a single thread.

Anyways, I like the idea that they're actually doing this. I'm going to get a flash drive and just use that because I only have a 256mb card which I'm sure isn't enough. Finally, the poll on socom is going to do good.

I called Sony

I called Sony to verify the compatibility of USB Flash drives with the PS2, what the Sony rep said was this............As long as the device is a offical "USB Flash Drive" any of the drives should work, and If a device driver is needed for the PS2 to recongnize the device it will be available for download with the Map pack or before we download the map pack. That is all.....................

Now to Bustinator for flamming this original message

"Because:

1. There is a post very similar to the thread just posted.

2. If you are known for 'spamming' then it would be unfavored.

3. When you make worthless threads like this one, it is a waste of space...no questions asked.

Has anyone been able to find what USB Drives will work. I tried connecting my PNY 256MB Attache and the browser only saw tha HDD and the Memory cards. I found a MAX Drive but it was only 32MB and was released in 04. I know a lot of people do not have tha HDD so was wondering what the rest will do. March is upon us and I can't wait for tha maps. These were 3 cool maps on Socom2.

256mb should be more than enough. The article said to have a storage device with atleast 32mb. Meaning, the first pack will be alittle bit less than that. Then the article specifically said "second and third map pack".
So 256-32=224mb left for the 2nd and 3rd map packs. And if Zipper/Sony plans to, be able to put patches on the storage device, which you should still have plenty of room.
