Spectator's Glitch! What EXACTLY is it? *EDITED FOR PATCH*
Thank you to the person who made this sticky...
Edits.
2/9/2006, the spectating legion! Facts 3e and solutions.
2/13/2006, GHOST RIDER! Fact 3f.
3/18/2006, The Beginning of the End. Patch info on the bottom of post... Facts 6a, 6b.
The Spectator Glitch
1. The Explanation.
The Spectator Glitch (also known as the spec glitch) is the act of someone entering a room as a spectator. Then with some tricky "switching", they can enter the game with weapons in hand while still beng a spectator.
2. The Problems.
(2a) When there's a spec glitcher in your room, that means trouble. Why? They can kill both your team and the opposing team without losing any rank ponts. They get the kills (and deaths, explained in 3a), but without penalty.
(2b) Spectator glitchers are just that... Spectators. They cannot be seen initially by any other players (explained in 3b). They act as phantoms as they kill you, so after they kill you your screen follows an invisible person.
3. The Facts
(3a) Spec glitchers CAN be killed, but only by explosives or vehicle. Throw a grenade or grenade by launcher and they die. Run them over and they die. Bullets have no effect on them! I repeat, bullets hve ABSOLUTELY no effect on them. No matter what anyone says...
(3b) In certain situations, they can be seen. If you joined the game late (after the glitcher of course), you could see them. Yes, they are still invincible to bullets.
(3c) If they are invisible to you, then you have to make them talk. They indeed can talk back to you, but that is also a weakness for them. When they talk, you can see them on your map on the top of the screen. This could help you decide which way to go, or which way to avoid.
(3d) They can still follow out objectives for you. They can kill the opposing team, the hostages, pick up and plant the bomb, etc. HOWEVER, this is bad too. They act as double agents. They can pick up the bomb for you, then plant it on your side if they want. They can pick up hostages, but then kill them afterwards. They are double agents, usually wreaking havoc on whomever crosses their paths.
(3e) The spectating legion! I did the glitch today, for research of course, and I found out something. There was another glitcher in there with me. He was on the opposite team. I was able to see him but he couldn't see me (becuse I joined later in the game after him). He was still invincible, however. Spectators cannot kill other spectators (except by grenades and such...). I didn't know he was a spectator until I saw his name over him, ageofpoo. lmao. I pressed select and indeed, he wasn't on the list. lol
(3f) Spectators can ride cars if they wanted. Here's the thing though... You can enter ANY car you want, except for the ones with atleast one person in it. Um... think of it this way. As a spectator glitcher, everyone is regarded as your enemy. If someone gets in a car, anyone, the car appears as red on the radar. What I'm not sure about, however, is if you are still invisible as you are driving... but if you get the tank, none of that matters. lol.
4. The Solution
Until there is a patch released, you can only to one thing to prevent this. When you make/join a room, make sure that spectators are turned off. MAKE SURE, because spec glitchers are like the HIV, and Spectators turned off is like the condom.
Avoid making rooms that have "no specs" or such, because it's reverse psychology. If I saw a room that said no specs, I would jump in as a spec. lol, see what I'm saying. If there is indeed a way to go into a game without specs on, then you're probably the first one to be targeted... seriously.
I do not suggest this, but it is an option (if you know how)... Spec glitch the spec glitcher! They wouldn't be able to see you, and you could see them perfectly. If you see the spec glitcher, then leave the room and spec glitch it (if you know how), then strap on an m203 or rocket-propelled launcher! But after that, you have to stop playing until next round... no cheating would be permitted by anyone. Go make yourself a sandwich or something... no really, enjoy, you just busted a ghost! Be proud.
5. How It's Done.
I won't tell you. Yes, I do indeed know how it's done but I won't tell you. I won't spread the glitch, and I won't reply to instant messages asking about them. I have indeed tried it, but didn't kill anyone... just tested it out. That goes for you too! If you know how it's done, don't leak it. Keep the secret to yourself.
6a. The Beginning of the End: Post-Patch.
Okay, after the latest patch, the spec glitch has stopped in it's tracks... sort of. The ORIGINAL way has been stopped from what I see, but there are additional ways to perform this glitch. However, not many people know the alternative ways to do it, except for a team (rather clan) of glitchers, the eXo.
What do you do? Nothing. Just follow the avoidance measures listed above, and leave it all to Zipper Interactive.
This is a message from the Capricorn-J.
6b. What Exactly Happens for glitchers post-patch...
I'm posting this part for the sole aspect for the interested. I want to be a video game designer in the future, and learning how Zipper twists their codes to stop glitchers might help others who ae thinking of the same profession...
Well, with the spec glitch, I can assume that Zipper couldn't figure out a way to stop the glitch directly... like actually manipulating the coding for it. But they did find another way. The actual task of doing the glitch can still be done, but they made it so whomever enters a room as a spectator (glitcher or otherwise), they would enter as a normal spectator no matter what. That means they stop the glitch at the loading screen, so they figured out another way to stop it without destroying it.
I'm sure that Zipper will abolish it, and the other harmful glitches, sooner or later... hopefully sooner. Hopefully this will be my last update on this matter. Capricorn-J, signing off...
