The NFL Experience Detroit, Michigan
I recently went to the NFL Experience at Cobo Hall in Detroit. I went yesterday, and I must say, IT WAS FRICKING AMAZING!
So many people, so many games, and so many NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS players.
Among the games was the "Down and Out", which is exactly like it sounds. You start off on the left side, you make it throught dummy defenders and make your break. The ball is launched out, and you try and catch it. The machine that threw the balll, wasn't any better than Joey Harrington was, but it was decent. Myself missed the ball, considering the guy launched it to early and I had to pull out the diving. The ball went right through my hand, but it was a hell of a try if I do say so myself.
Another game I tried was the let it fly, once again just like it sounds. You step and and attempt to throw a NFL size football as far as you can. I have a decent arm, but only launched it 45 yard max. Why you ask? The roof was a little low and I hit a light, which made the ball drop. The guy behind me said that would have went 55 and maybe more. They did give me another shot, but my arm was like NOPE. I ain't trying that again.
I tried a total of three games. The third was the field goal attempt. I'd say it was about a 20 year attempt. I missed on my first shot wide left, but I did manage to hit it on my third. The uprights they had in Cobo were actual size and it amazed me that they actually got them in there. It looked as if they were through the roof! They had the dummy defenders and I must say, they were bad. Out of 100 attempts, they blocked a good 25 if not more. If only the Lions could do that!
Some of the other games they had there was the Punt, Pass and Kick. This included Punting, Passing and trying to kick a field goal. The only difference i, you were timed on how long it took you to punt the ball 35 yards, pass the ball near a target and have them catch it, and kick the field goal. I didn't get to this, but It did look fun.
Training camp, well you attempt to run through defenders, push the dummies and do a basic training camp. This one didn't seem as fun as the others.
They had the Qb quick release, QB pocket passing, QB precision passing, and many other games that involves passing.
They had the running back races, where you are handed a ball and have to race other people with a football as well.
They had the Red Zone rush, in which you had to go through moving dummies and try to get the six.
The only problem I had with the games is the line length. The only reason I was able to get to only three games, is because I had to stand in line for 30 minutes at a time. By the third game, i needed to sit down.
On another note, they had a HUGE kids section, that was for kids 12 and under. The games were designed to the younger kids, and considering I'm 15, I couldn't go in that area.
They had a souviner area where you could buy cards, replica coins, pictures, and many ohter things. They also had players signing cards, but the lines were really long.
Cobo Hall is a big place for those of you who have never been there. Considering it's indoors, it can hold about 60,000 people. They hold concerts, and if you can fit as many games in there as I mentioned, its gotta be big. I think this is the major reason in why the lines were as long as they were.
If the Super Bowl is coming to a place near you, I would go to this if I had the chance again. The cost for a ticket is $15 and all the games are included. You have to buy your own food though, and the prices are high.
So, if you have any more questions about this event, please post your questions and I will respond. OR, if your going and want to share what you think abou it, let me know.
